I think arums logic is that he can throw another juanma vs ??? and gamboa vs ???card together and it'll do as well if not better on its own than throwing all his eggs in a cotto foreman basket. This way he gets 2 moderate sized cards, he may even throw gamboa or juanma on top rank live and boost that up a bit. No one stacks cards anymore.

I think, at this point, JuanMa has a very good chance to eclipse Cotto in terms of Puerto Rican buzz. I mean, if Cotto gets slapped around by Margarito, Pacquiao and then comes back at a higher weightclass and loses a lopsided decision to Foreman; where is there to go?

You put Lopez on the undercard, have him give a great showing and a dazzling KO, and where's the excitement going to go? When fans talk about the night they'll say, "Yeah, sucks, Cotto is done, man...but that Juanma! Whoa! He's the next king!"

Better, I guess from Arum's eyes, to keep those two- who will both sell a decent amount- on their own, separate cards.

          Very small time PPV's.

Arum is having a fight at Yankee's freakin stadium. He needs to do this big, imo. It's one thing to have a ****ty card at Dallas stadium cuz pac is the headline, but cotto isn't pacquiao. JuanMa is a rising star, together it would be very successful. If it's just cotto/foreman, and a decent or crappy card, can it sell out? If it doesn't it kinda looks bad. Maybe Yankee stadium wont have any more fights as a result.

It's important to put on good cards if you're going to do it on such a large stage, imo.

Call me crazy but I think Arum is showing a little deference to Miguel. I mean, if Cotto is on the downside of his career- which I hate to admit is in the realm of possibility- stacking the undercard with dazzling up-and-coming Puerto Ricans just give his PR fans an excuse to throw him in the trash heap and start riding the next big thing; i.e. JuanMa.

I mean, there are plenty of people out there that just love winners. I've already heard Cotto fans saying he's washed up, mainstream boxing fans saying the beatings he's taken have ruined him mentally.

Perhaps Arum wants the fans to truly be there to support Cotto himself, and not an all-around star studded PR card. This might be one of his last big outings if he doesn't win. I mean, maybe I'm reading too much into this, or giving Bob too much credit, but it's not impossible..

What recent undercard for Arum has been good? He wants to put 30,000 asses in the seats and he is gonna do what he always do and give a week undercard. Maybe he will get John Duddy in there to get his crowd in, who knows what this guy has under his sleeve

                      It's about the money.

Arum wants Juanma and Gamboa on HBO. There is NO chance that HBO would have put up enough money to have a triple header in an already loaded Q2 including Cotto, Lopez, and Gamboa. Literally no way. They hardly put up enough money for Cotto.

Having Juanma fight on the card in an untelevised bout would have been counter-productive to making Lopez a star. I understand why Arum didn't put Lopez and Gamboa on the card.
