For me, it was Arturro Gatti. I'm not even sure who he was fighting (mighta been Ivan) but he took this monsterous uppercut and went down. I remember just being glued to the screen watching him get up and thinking "oh, he's gotta be done", only to watch him come back even harder and stronger than before. That was the thing about Arturro (R.I.P), when he got hit it made him come back even harder. I was hooked after that.Comment

Nothing at all wrong with that,me and the missus were hooked on that for the first two series, and now I watch it with my lad. People come to the sport in different ways, its all good. As a fan I want everybody to love the sport.I always watched boxing with my Dad, I could never tell how into he was, but i remember we'd go to my uncles house for big fights. I remember him talking about Tyson vs Spinks, and then i remember watching tyson douglas with him, everyone was freakingout, i was half watching half playing with he-man or GI joes. I played alot of Video game boxing from the NES up to the curren consoles, I think thats what honestly what repeaked my interest. Actually what honestly probably really hooked me on boxing and vaulted me from the occasional watcher to a "gotta see every fight i can", kind of person was (embarassing as it is) the contender series. It resparked my interest, and allowed me to talk boxing with other people.... Then the internet and espn classic, i got to relive fights i had forgotton about from the time i would just an occasional viewer.Comment

I do. Funny thing is, I didn't like Leonard because I thought he was a show-off! I saw Duran beat him in Montreal from the nosebleed seats at the Olympic Stadium in 1980 (I remember wearing a garbage bag as a makeshift raincoat because of unexpected thunderstorm) and was cheering wildly for Duran the whole time.
I have been around boxing (as a fighter and part-time trainer) and following the sport for about 35 years. Nothing like the atmosphere of a live fight.Comment
Just kidding! Thats amazing, you remember it well?
