By Roy Jones losing, I know this. Most people get to number one by the previous number 1 losing. The difference here is Mayweather didn't lose to anyone. He simply retired. Pacquiao became number 1 because Mayweather left not because he lost. Losing means you're not as good as your rank indicates which is why you drop in the rankings after a loss. That wasn't the case with Mayweather.
