he probably realized that he cant cut off all that weight at this age and said *** it ! im rich i dont need to return. before he needed the money so he worked to lose the weight. but with no motivation why continue..its best decision for him anyways when you look at the level of competition the 140 pound weight class has had as of late.. all these upcoming and current fighters.

Great news.
He had nothing left to prove. He is no longer the fighter he once was, but only two fights ago he was still good enough to completely destroy a top 5 Jnr Welterweight in Malignaggi. He blew his two biggest fights when he went mad with idiotic tactics, but his only losses were to people who were rated P4P #1 at the time he fought them. He beat two future Hall of Famers very convincingly, and although they were both a little past their prime, they were far from being shot when he fought them, and were both in the P4P top 10 when he beat them.
He was the Lineal champion in his weight class for nearly four years - very few fighters have been a Lineal champion for that long.
He's not an ATG, and he may never get into the Hall of Fame (although he may just sc**** in eventually); but he had a really fabulous career, better than 99% of boxers have had. Contrary to what people keep saying about him, he's under-rated by a lot more people than he's over-rated by.
And he's a multi-millionaire and can retire still in good health and able to enjoy his wealth. Fighting on would have put his health at risk for no reason. Great decision, great career. Best of luck with the rest of your life, Ricky.Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-09-2010, 12:15 AM.

He seems like a great guy to go out partying with, hope he does retire. He has been buzzed or KO'd in has last couple fights and his punch resistance seems to waning for each fight. I mean he was buzzed severly by Collazo for Pete's sake. Decent career too bad if this is it he will most be remembered for getting KTFO by Pacman. I mean how many times do you think that KO will be replayed through the years?????
