I agree, cotto and mayweather were bound to fight at one point.I doubt cotto "turned it down" like you claim.Rememeber money "retired" around that time + the division was getting hot with entrys like p willy, margarito campaining, cintron waivering around, mosley lingering, clottey sharking around etc etc.

140 pretty much had ricky in equivalence to a NAME and $$$.An unknown timothy bradley, urango+alexander who were buliding a name.
When Mayweather destroyed Gatti Cotto and hatton where in the building Mayweather openly challenged Cotto and Hatton. he also later offered Cotto 4million to fight his team said he was not ready. Floyd then moved up to 147 and Arum said no way.

Its common for mayweather to "openly challenge" anyone. Its repeated history on his part.

He offered 4million to cotto do you think that was enough? Margarito offered floyd 8million and he didnt take it=margarito would be at least getting more?

Floyd was the champ and main man. If Cotto wanted Floyd he
would have been more vocal or told his team to make it happen.
140 or 147 Floyd still beats Cotto. Cotto didn't really improve
much, skill wise when he went to 147. The only thing that got
a lil better was his conditioning because he didn't have to worry
about making 140 and draining himself. Once Cotto began
fighting guys he could not pressure or bully with his power he
began to become less fierce (Mosley/Margarito/Clottey).
Floyd is an elite boxer, I really doubt Cotto and his holey
defense would have been able to break down Floyd. On
top of that, Cotto is a mental midget in the ring when his
offense is nullified. I really think if Cotto got passed Margarito
and fought and beat Oscar Floyd/Cotto would have happened.
I would have loved to see Cotto and Floyd get it on too
when they were both undefeated. To me Miguel Cotto was
always a work in progress and if he allowed the right people
to help him bring out his hidden potential he could have been
one hell of a champion skill wise.

Damn it MAN!!!!!!!! This thread has been on FIYA today, and I have been busy as all hell today, non-stop, no lunch break NOTHIN!!!!!!!

But anyway I'm stealin this moment in a vain attempt to keep up.

Good question. Ortiz has the power to put Nate to sleep easily but, Nate is real crafty, plus he's got some pop that will get Victor's attention. Every since the Madiana fight, IDK how to feel about Vic Ortiz, if he would have continued, I think he could have gotten Marcos outta there; But as soon as he tasted a shot from somebody who could crack like him he folded like a cheap lawn chair. He's gonna have to show me that he can press on through some adversity first for me to completely co-sign on him again. I pick Nate.

Now if Francisco Bojado(WOW where has HE been.....I know right), makes good on the smack he's been talkin recently bout making a come back; I can co-sign on Victor for that fight. F.Bojado has become one of my greatest disapointments, I thought this kid was gonna be special.

              Its taking you forever.

              Your solution.

              http://www.*************.com/columns...to-duck-cotto/

Whatever the reason may be the fight never happened.I dont care if cotto won or floyd won.The reason why it never happened interests me.

lol Lets not run around like chickens with chopped heads without gathering a lil' bit of facts.Lack of "stardom" was why it never happened. Not cuz cotto was green etc etc.

Oh did i mention that cotto is a top rank fighter? a lil nudge grude with the works could be thrown in there as well.

I don't have a link to the 4 Million dollar offer but I do have this
                quote.

"We're looking for guys like Ricky Hatton and 'Pretty Boy' Floyd Mayweather. So you're seeing now the finishing touches on the emerging superstar, and in 2006 hopefully he will be able to claim the mantle of the real, real superstar."

Hatton emerged as the recognized 140-pound champion with his TKO of Kostya Tszyu June 11. Mayweather, the pound-for-pound king who is also promoted by Arum, stopped Arturo Gatti to claim a junior welterweight title two weeks later.

Cotto against either man would certainly qualify as a super fight, but before either match can be explored seriously, he has to keep winning."

Sorry Rome, Im still playin catch up homie. Agree 100% bout that name calling ****. If you gotta stoop to name callin, then they might wanna find fox sport or some loosely controlled blog somewhere else(Maury Povich, Jerry Springer or some ****), we grown ass men and women(I'm sure there are some females on here somewhere????) around here.

But I think again Floyd moved up smartly. You right Shane skipped JWW. And Floyd was still trying to make his mark at LW when he called for Shane. I agree with the if you want him go get him mentality, but Shane was older and more developed physically than Floyd, he had a chance right there to beat Floyd; which I he would've been able to do back then. But he instead chose to ignore Floyd and brush him off as he wasnt worth that much money at the time. It was Shane's polite way of saying "Gitcha weight up Homie, before you come round here".

I would of loved the acceptance of floyd against Margarito.Although he would make margarito look so staionary it wouldnt even be funny. But who did floyd fight after turning it down? Judah? I doubt he gave floyd more then 8mil.And if he did the split +ppv % was a wide margine in favor of floyd.

Eventualy the issue of floyd is the that cotto laked "stardom",he had no name etc etc.

Arum wanted as much money as possible for cotto.
