If Martinez fought Margarito now, he would beat him in pretty dominant fashion, that fight was a long time ago and I am sure he has learned alot in what 9 years?
Who was the only person to KO Sergio Martinez?

I agree with u, I wonder why this hasn't been explored at 154, I would favor Martinez without hesitating. He's more experienced, defensive-minded, and his attack is sharper now. Against Pavlik I don't know but I wouldn't use the Margarito fight as a measuring stick.Comment

martinez will be hit harder then he has ever been hit before when he fights pavlik im interested to see how he handles the pressure and power of pavlik. with williams it was just pressure but now in this fight he will have to deal with both. also i dont understand the comparison that many on this site have made between martinez and hopkins they are two completely different fighters who bring completely different dimensions to a fight from their size skill level style experience ect if you think martinez wins thats your opinion and im sure you could make an argument why but please dont mention the hopkins fight as a reason.Comment

Its not that Hopkins and Martinez are being compared as fighters, its the element of lateral movement and counter punching which Hopkins exposed as a problem for Pavlik and a key to beating him.martinez will be hit harder then he has ever been hit before when he fights pavlik im interested to see how he handles the pressure and power of pavlik. with williams it was just pressure but now in this fight he will have to deal with both. also i dont understand the comparison that many on this site have made between martinez and hopkins they are two completely different fighters who bring completely different dimensions to a fight from their size skill level style experience ect if you think martinez wins thats your opinion and im sure you could make an argument why but please dont mention the hopkins fight as a reason.
The rational here is if old man B-hop can out position himself and was too fast for Kelly then this should be an easy task for Sergio.....the only ??? is when Sergio takes a solid shot because Hopkins unlike Martinez is an iron chinned LHW.Comment

i see what your saying but i think it was more of hopkins being the smarter boxer and also being much stronger then kelly thought. i dont see martinez being able to handle pavliks strength and pressure like the bigger stronger hopkins did. i dont think sergio is as slick as he is made out to be either he does get hit and will trade when pressured as williams showed. Its not that Hopkins and Martinez are being compared as fighters, its the element of lateral movement and counter punching which Hopkins exposed as a problem for Pavlik and a key to beating him.

The thing is, Kelly is not a volume puncher per say. He's more accurate than Margarito though.Antonio Margarito. A guy who is a high volume, come forward, 1-2 style puncher. Kelly Pavlik is Tony Margarito but bigger, with more power and better defense(his defense is underrated).
Just sayin, if a tough ,come forward, high volume, power punching right hander is who Sergio has trouble with.... Kelly Pavlik may have a better chance than many of you think.

you watch that fight and it looks like Martinez still has a lot of the same habits. He moves the same way when being pursued, hands down looking to counter. He was successful against Williams because Williams gave up his height and fought sloppy on the inside. I dont see Pavlik giving up his height and I dont see Pavlik trying to fight him on the inside. Once Sergio feels the power he will attempt to stay outside even more, engage even less and wear himself down in the process.Comment

Pavlik is very much a volume puncher and as far as accuracy goes he and Margs are probably in the same ballpark its just that Pavlik has the long jab and legitimate power(non-loaded). Pavlik fights tall and primarily from range Margarito is/was an inside brawler.Comment

If this was the 2001 version of Martinez you would be right.
Margarito was a full fledged pro back then and Martinez admitted that he just wasn't ready for someone as good as him.
Martinez is now a full fledged pro himself and not the rookie he was back then.
I would favor this version of Martinez even against a prime Margarito.Comment
