Well....technically he nearly did against Whitiker but i get the point. The avatar was that day when Hopkins started to mess with the PR flag and got chased out of the building ( love ol` Hop! ).
And Trinidad was over rated. The fans fell in love with the power, much like Tyson`s power but problem with Tito he hasn`t got anything at world level apart from power. And i think the middleweight division was a step too far because he fought only three middleweights ( Joppy is a very small middle ) and Chafief was shot. Hopkins ****ed him up and Mayorga was a welterweight and Wright was a Jnr Middleweight.
He claimed at the end of 2000 he couldn`t make 154 comfortably so i think Trinidad is finished. I`m happy. I hate these fighters who get a fan following based on their power but have little skill to go long with it. Its good to see the bully exposed. Let real boxers like Hopkins and Wright get the cheers not fighters who just come in ****ing.

Chavez was 33 when they first fought, I think it would a been a much better fight if he was younger, but I still think Oscar would win.

I think people usually call him overrated because of his record which has tons of names half which noboy has ever heard him.

But in reality if u dont take his huge record into account and go by the fighters which are good on his record that he beat and how he did beat him JCC is definitely not overrated. Seriously its not his fault he decided instead of taking huge yearly lay-offs he fought.

in his prime or close to his prime big names on his resume are,

          Martinez (TKO)
          Rosario (TKO)
          Ramirez (TD)
          Mayweather (TKO)
          Taylor (TKO)
          Lockridge (UD)

Here is a quick rundown of the guys above:

Martinez was highly toughted Mexican prospect who went to war with chavez. he was 33-1-2

Rosario was one of the hardest punchers ever at 135lbs, he had just come off what some thought a contreversial loss with Camacho. And regained his belt by knocking out highly regarded champ Livingston Bramble.

Ramirez had just come off a controversial win over Pernell whitaker but one of his most memorable victories was his stoppage of Rosario.

Roger Mayweather was a highly regarded boxing prospect who had been stopped by lockridge but had 2 wins before facing chavez. Many people thought he would box circles around Chavez. He would later go on to win a championship at light welter.

Meldrick Taylor - Obviously no description is needed.

Lockridge - He had destroyed Mayweather and thus Chavez couldnt move up without fighting him first.

I think he's just one of those guys who is overrated or underrated depending on who you speak to. One things for sure and thats that nobody will touch his record ever again.

              so what do you think???
              is Julio Cesar Chavez overrated???
and how good do you think he really was???
I dont know about overrated, but charging $50 to see his last fight is rediculous ..I wont pay it either!

Ill give my very baised opinion.
Chavez had defeated more champions, former champions and #1 contenders in his time. Sure his first fights were in Mexico and no one knew these guys but you sit and say a pro fighter wont be a tough opponent. I have said this so many times,"You will never see a fighter like Chavez in your lifetime." Calling a fighter that did everything he did in the ring is just plain HATING.

Chavez really is not overrated, it just seems that people tend to forget how good he really was because he is still fighting today and nowhere near the level he was once at... I think people see too much of Chavez now, or even five years ago or more, and think of that as being closely related to the Chavez of old-- which would be a fallacious assumption.
