Comments Thread For: Sources: Hasegawa vs. Montiel is Not Happening

I'm not exactly sure what the story is in Japan. Last week there were multiple reports in the Japanese press that Hozumi Hasegawa would fight Fernando Montiel in a bantamweight unification fight on April 30 in Japan. On Monday there was an actual press conference in Japan where Teiken Promotions announced the fight was close to a deal. [Click Here To Read More]

Damn it, bad news. It's not that I don't want to see Montiel/Morel but I would love to see Hasegawa against the top guys at bantam, I think he's one of the best right now but he's fighting stiffs.

I wish he calls out Hasegawa, man he never mentions him, he calls out everyone but Hasegawa, who's the real deal at bantam.

I like Top Rank marketing strategy. Make people believe that a TR fighter (Pacquiao, Valero, Montiel) is going to fight the top dog (Mayweather, Bradley, Hasegawa), then make some excuse and fight a no hoper (Clottey, Peterson, Morel)

This involves a Top Rank fighter what a suprise!! Arum does boxing a disservice and needs to be put out of his misery. Remember once upon a time when the FBI raided his offices, I wish that would happen again only this time they need to put him out of business. In fact the FEDS should kidnap him and dump him off in the jungle like they did to Carlos Marcello back in the day. lol. I agree with what someone said earlier, this seems to be Top Ranks way of doing business to call out a top name fighter then back off and fight another fighter in the Top Rank stable.

              I'm not surprised.

Japan supposedly only recognizes the WBC and WBA belts.

For hasegawa to fight a unification bout for Montiel's WBO belt would legitimize Donaire's claim that Naito ducked him at 112 after calling him out for a unification bout on several occassions.

Donaire only fought his 2nd fight at 115lbs last week. It takes nerves of steel as it is to jump up another weight division to fight montiel, let alone hasegawa.

Nonito can barely make 115 though.

donaire's walking around weight is 140 and he said himself he has no problem fighting all the way up to 135. He should step up the weight and competition.
