Manny Pacquiao and Steroids...Have they put a black mark on boxing?

Even if these allegations aren't true, all I hear about on the street in the recent weeks is how steroids are ruining boxing's clean image. I have to look no further than Manny Pacquiao to blame for that misfortune. Regardless of if allegations are true or not, Pac had an easy chance to propel this sport forwards, instead he took it back to the ice age.

Boxing has never really had a clean image, dude. I bet if OST became the norm you will see a lot of fighters dropping weight class and others retiring.

Oscar De La Hoya gave boxing a golden image. I don't understand why Manny didn't want it to continue.

Not at this point, if Manny ever decides to take a random test this will go away with him for good especially if his peformance is the same. Just the perception of negating to a test is fueling the idea that he is on some PED. Ariza's comments didn't help his cause and his historic rise and conquer of the higher weights in such a dominant fashion would raise speculation of some fans to question PED use. To many lame excuses came from the Pac side that doesn't support why not take the test within reason.

He has become an Icon and a very wealthy man cause of boxing. He is the face of boxing right now and should had negotiated for some testing so everybody else would follow in some capacity. The test will just help boxing in order to keep every fighter on the same even field when they meet in the ring

Quickly posting before this turns into a Pac fans vs Floyd fans jerk off session...

I think that at the present time, boxing doesn't deserve to have a good image. This whole saga has exposed the fact that drug testing in boxing is poorly handled and in need of a massive change. Now that people know this it's hard to believe that fights take place on an even playing field.

So my answer would yes, however if it leads to HBO, Showtime, GBP, Arum or any of the major players in the sport announcing that all of the fights they are involved in have to have Olympic style drug testing then it'll be a good thing in the long run. I don't expect that to happen though, sadly.

This could never happen unfortunately. Just imagine a superfight about to happen, there has been 1.5m ppvs sold, 40K in attendence and fighter A inconveniatley tests positive for roids.

Let us end this thread by saying : Pac is P4P king and fighter of the decade. Larry Merchant, Al Berntein and everybody that makes boxing sense thinks highly of PAC and think Floyd is crap...

Your absolutely right, by Mayweather publicly stating that boxing testing is a joke then accusing the biggest name in the sport may be using and that the official testing system isn't catching him, he has single handedly brought all testing in boxing into question by the mainstream. Thanks Floyd.

What? How did Oscar give boxing a golden image? All he talked about was how crooked boxing was... And, how he was going to investigate his decision losses against Tito and Shane. Yet never investigated the decisions wins he got for Whitaker, Quartey, and Sturm. We talking about the same Oscar who gave an old Chavez a rematch after stopping him in the first fight. Yet never gave Whitaker or Quartey a rematch. Fuck Oscar... That is the same guy who still has not signed the waver to let his testing results be known. The same Oscar who runs Golden Boy Promotions and gets the house decisions for his fighters. Fuck Oscar..................................... fuck him

Jrosales, you seem like a level-headed guy, so I'm gonna ask you this question. I've asked it maybe 5 times and have never gotten a response.

If Oscar did test positive for PEDs and the Nevada Commission kept it under wraps and didn't realease it to the public or suspend DLH, isn't that reason enough for an outside testing agency to be the new standard for drug testing in boxing?
