You don't need an amateur career to turn pro, and you don't necessarily have to be a great amateur to be a great pro, but if you want to have a solid base and not get wiped out as a pro, fight as an amateur first off. Much safer environment to develop fighting experience and skills in.

If I was a trainer I would never turn a guy pro first off, he needs amateur fights first, and I don't know any trainers who wouldn't do the same.

See if you lose your first am fight, it's no big deal at all. Records don't matter much, you can have a poor record and still enter tournaments and all that

But as a pro you are fighting to land a payday and having an appealing record is a big factor in that, so if you step straight into the pros with no fighting experience, come in with no backup or background, get matched with whoever, and get your ass beat.....leaves you in a much worse situation...

I think it's possible for non-physically gifted people too, but you would have to engulf yourself in the sport for years. Your life would have to revolve around it.
What makes, you think Cintron is physically gifted? He's not really tall for his weight, he's pretty average height, not really big legs, and average shoulders.

Not sure about that. Even the champions we see today with the brawler or wide open sort of style, are still decently skilled fighters with fundamentals. You won't beat any sort of good fighter without well ingrained fundamentals and experience.

I think with Cintron he is refering to his strength and power.

I assumed he was talking about his height, reach, build. Which is what physical actually means.

His body frame is what gets him all that power. Seeing him in the streets you wouldn't know he could probably knock out a lot of ppl because he's thin.

No a body frame dosent get you power. Punchers are born NOT MADE.

Punchers come in all different shape and sizes. And it has nothing to do with what type of build you have.

If punching power, came down to Physical attributes, then why isn't Valuev a big puncher?

Did you not get the thin memo I said? And yes, a body frame can get you power. Tell Hearns and Julian Jackson that ir doesn't and they'd laugh.Or tell Tyson his short compact frame didn't help his punching power. Of course punchers come in different shape and sizes, that's what I was saying when mentioning he was thin.

Think about what you type before posting, you got it completely wrong.

Are you kidding me Cintron is huge for a guy to make 147, I met him at BB Kings and couldnt believe how big he was. Hes very physically gifted, and has the perfect built for a fighter. His shoulders are far from average.

Hes naturally strong, Steward even said, normally he wouldnt work with a guy who didnt have much experience but he was so impressed by Cintron's athletic ability watching him play ball he wanted to work with him.

I don't think its possible, not nowdays anyway ..people are too soft ..they don't eat right..they have what they need..it also depends what country ur from and how u grow up..most of the people who didnt fight amateur are people who had 100's of fights in the street or who fought in pubs for money to buy a meal..nowdays cats are too soft..even amateurs cant make it pro let not talk about someone who never boxed.
