Of course punchers come in different shape and sizes, that's what I was saying when mentioning he was thin.

Think about what you type before posting, you got it completely wrong.
No your talking ****. Cintron's build has nothing to do with him being a big puncher, he was born a puncher.

Punchers are born not made. You need to learn more about the sport.

        Who needs amature background?
Same game, but totally different setup.

I think that amateur boxing is becoming less and less useful for boxers intending to go pro.

Modern Amateur boxing uses, develops and rewards a different skill set than what professional boxers use. Head hunting, pop shooting for the "clean points" and where body shots RARELY get a fighter points. Look at the current champions and how many of them have the style to be top amateurs.

Now if you look at the past Amateur boxing was very similar to pro boxing and was a better stepping stone and preparation for the pro's.

Just look at Hearns vs Pryor Amateur fight and then look at any of the medal fights of these past Olympics and its quite clear.

I dont know why someone who is serious about going pro wouldnt become a amature first. If you really want to be good then do the amature first. It safer to get atleast 10-15 amature fights.

I myself just started me amature career and i plan on doing about 25-30 amature fights before i turn pro. Its a great test to see where you are, plus nothing is a better learning steping stone then experince. Atleast do 10 amature fights, you can do that in 8-12 months. Maybe even less then that.

and every top fighter had somewhat of a amature career. I dont know to much about Manny Pacquiao but most the guys in the p4P list had a pretty decent and long amature career

did pacman have a ameture background? I know he started pro at 16.

idt you need an ametur background b/c if you can fight you can fight. You might get babied for ur first 20+ fights but you can still make it big. You just gonna have to make a believer out of people. I know he not a boxer but look at kimbo.

Punchers are made not born. perhaps you are the one that needs to learn more about the sport.

the idea that punchers are made and not born comes from people who dont box and boxers so obsessed with them self's that despite having spent 10 years training they seem to forget about having spent that time training

!MO with the klits ruling the hvwt circus i say an amatuer career for a hvwt at this time in history is not neccesary.

Most fighters with great amateur backgrounds don't become champions so I would say yes and sometimes the amateur boxing ways can mess a fighter up for instance amateur fighters are always jumping around and never learn to sit on their punches which you will need to do when you become a professional! you can't always out box a fighter and you will be hit unlike the amateurs where you're used to wearing a headgear. Professional boxing is way different than amateur boxing but its good to have some amateur fights just to learn the basics of boxing!!!
