Comments Thread For: The Top 25 Heavyweights of All-Time – 11 to 25

By Cliff Rold - For any new boxing fan, the time is not long before a fellow fan points out a magic number which grows more mythologized with time: eight. As in boxing’s original eight weight classes. The number represents in the mind of many a time when the sport was compressed into fields which couldn’t help but be talented, couldn’t help but draw crowds, because there were so few places on the scale to go. They were divisions marked by single champions ever challenged by a depth of contenders today’s seventeen weight classes rarely know.

I think Gene Tunney should be much higher. IMO he is one of the most underrated HW champions...

As for the deleted reply of Klitschko2009... I think that Wladimir is capable of establishing himself as a top 10 HW, but he needs a little more time and quality opponents. Many would disagree, but, personally, i find his resume already worth of considering him a potential top 10-15 ATG HW... His place among all-time greats will become much higher if he fights the guys like Chambers, Povetkin, Haye and Arreola (Yeh, the last is already beaten by the elder bro, but, at the same time, he is a stylistically very difficult opponent for Wlad)... and probably Boytsov.

      Terrible list.

Why are you Americans so prejudiced against the Dominant Ukrainian Klitschko Brothers?

Are you Americans still pissed off about the cold war?

Either Klitschko would destroy all of the fighters on that awful list.

        Good post bro.

Wlad and Vitali are both Top 10 ATG Heavyweights.

Either Klitschko can beat any HW from any era.

If the Klitschko Brothers were American, they would already be top 10 for sure.

        Fuck America.

i agree that the Klitchko's are very underrated but once they retire people will really appreciate how they dominated their era

I think contemporary fighters should only be included in any lists after their careers are over.

I can understand with Tunney's rating although I think he was a great fighter. He retired in the prime of his career. If only we had seen him fight the likes of Sharkey and Schmeling. Wills declined to fight him so there's nothing he could have done about that. However don't forget that while Tommy Gibbons and Harry Greb weren't heavyweights in size, they were rightfully considered the best challengers for Jack Dempsey's title due to beating many bigger men. Tunney beat both and deserves some credit for it.

Maybe the Klitschkos are not included because they're still active? Because they should be in the top 25 at least, for sure.
