If he fought Bradley in his first fight at 140, how could you call him anything else? But what are these huge wins at 130 that you speak of in calling that his best weight?

Of course he is. He is a small LW. How is a small LW not blown up at 140?

        Prime example: Juan Diaz.

Blown up LW, not a blown up SFW. That's sort of disresectful to Juan Diaz and Casamayor. So beating them didn't establish him as an elite LW?

Doesn't change the fact that Marquez is a career featherweight who was pushing his limit at 135. He was visibly smaller than Diaz and Casamayor and in no way dominating either of those fights.

He is a small lightweight, but a blown up junior welterweight.

jmm spent the majority of his career at featherweight ... i do consider him an elite lightweight but a smallish one. he got those big wins on his talent rather then size ...

i wouldnt give too nuch cred to khan unless jmm fought at least one fight at jr ww and established that he can hang at that weight ...

Vicente Mosquera was considered his best win until Demarco, you could argue he was faster and stronger at 130 too since the guys at 130 couldn't deal with him as well.

My main point is, there is a huge double standard when it comes to weight. Not necessarily you because you are consistent with your opinions, even if I disagree.

But look at this topic and Valero Bradley. The "Yes to No" margin is very different, but yet their best weight was either 130 or 135. People bring up the points that Marquez is a small lightweight. He was still able to beat those fighters with his skill though.

But look at Hatton. People call him a blown up Welterweight, but really it shouldn't apply because according to the logic people used for Edwin Valero against Bradley, it's only 5 pounds, so why should it matter?

Maybe because Hatton is smaller then the normal welterweight? Ok then let's compare Edwin Valero to Kelly Pavlik. Valero who is 5'7 1/2 is taller then Bradley at 5'6. Valero apparently struggles to make weight at 135. Kelly Pavlik is 6'2 1/2. Bernard Hopkins is 6'1. Kelly Pavlik doesn't have an easy time making 160.

But yet, most people consider Kelly Pavlik a blown up Middleweight at 170. However, people don't consider Valero to be blown up at 140.

"Well warp, Kelly Pavlik didn't look the same at 170. He was slower and didn't have the power?"

How do you know that won't "happen" to Valero. Even though that excuse is mostly do to footwork and defense that made Pavlik look terrible.

People need to stop making up bull**** excuses for weight is what I'm getting at.

It comes in at a certain degree that it might make a fighter worse (Ex: Marquez jumping up to fight Mayweather), but at the end of the day it comes down to skills.

If both Valero and Marquez were to lose it is because at this point, Amir Khan and Tim Bradley are just better skilled fighters. Sure Marquez might not be the biggest 140 pounder, but he is still skilled enough to be a quality fighter and he would beat the majority of the 140 pounders. Hell I think he beats Khan too, but that's another story.

Do you believe Marquez was blown up at 144?

valero's never fought at 140 so if bradley were to beat him i would question it too ... if valero went up to 140 convincingly beat a top 10 guy i would give bradly the #1 in the division more cred for the win ... as is i would give cred but with a little * right beside it ...
