Comments Thread For: Shaw Sounds Off On Schaefer Over Angulo vs. Lara

Shortly after posting Richard Schaefer's comments regarding Alfredo Angulo's refusal to fight Erislandy Lara, BoxingScene.com received an angry call from Angulo's promoter Gary Shaw. Speaking with BoxingScene on Tuesday, Schaefer, the CEO for Golden Boy Promotions, said he tried his best to match Lara with Angulo, but the Mexican slugger had no interest in the fight.

I kind of have to agree.
Angulo Lara makes no sense to me for a fight right now.

Gary Shaw just went in on GBP and he is right. Angulo would beat the **** outta Lara and even at that Angulo has a fight signed while there are tons of matchups out there for Lara.

Also Gary is on point by bringing up GBP ducking Timothy Bradley. GBP would never put Khan, Ortiz, Marquez, and Diaz in the ring with Bradley which is a cowardly move by Oscar and Co.

That's what I don't get Oscar pretty much fought everybody in my eyes atleast. Say what you want about him ya know but he fought a lot of top guys. And I just wish he would make his fighters the same way.

Angulo is fighting Joel Julio in April...

Shaw mentioned Spinks well he is fighting K9 in March... So he will not be ready...

Shaw also mentioned Cintron and Williams even though I don't think nothing is signed they have been talks of them facing each other...

But, with everything else Shaw is right in this regard... I am glad he went in on Golden boy... I liked the last sentence Shaw said "If you(Schafer) need any other help in matchmaking, fell free to call me or call me at home in the evening." That made me laugh... He pretty much ****ted on Golden boy with that statement...

It's because Shaefer and HBO's Greenburg are making the decisions on who fights who.

If it were up to Oscar, I'm sure we'd have the best matchups.

Shaw is right - Golden Boy & HBO are hurting the sport right now.

that fight. Now julio and angulo is a fight, kirkland and angulo is a
fight the fans want.Lara needs to get more exposure.

But, who was his promoter when Oscar was fighting everyone? Bob Arum... A lot of people **** on Arum and say he protects his fighters... But, that is a misconceptions he does have the best matchmaker in the business with Bruce Trampler. But, they don't really baby fighters like a lot of people make it out to seem... Golden boy on the other hand just don't know how to move young fighters...
