Maybe it has to be Roy because who are the other options? It feels wrong to call Tarver light heavy of the decade on the sole merit of beating a drained and faded version of Roy. Dawson maybe but what has he really done at light heavy except beating Tarver and Johnson, Roy beat Tarver to...
lh i had it between Tarver Johnson and Dawson

        Actually I don't know.

Roy ran LHW for 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 after his single fight at HW.

        That's four years....

Tarver and Johnson mix matched belts, BHOP only fought one LHW.. and Dawson became the WBC champ in 07... so thats 2007, 2008, and 2009.

But when Roy reigned at LHW for those four years he held the WBC, WBA, IBO... and he had the IBF as well up until around 2002 I believe.

We shouldn't leave out Darius either...

yes he beat barrera but it's a good fight

          did he beat morales?
          did he beat manny?

          Manny beat all of them
The Morales wins were at 130. Marquez's win over Barrera was as well. Manny spent only a short time at 126; Marquez was consistently near the top of the class from 2000-06. I'd give him the edge as Feather of the decade.

You could make a case for Dawson as well. Johnson and Tarver (X2), Harding, and Adamek were as strong a run as Jones in the 00-03 at 75. I think those two could easily have a case for 1-2, though Tarver is in the mix too because he really had a strong run from 00-04.

Well Tarver got 2 titles when he beat Griffin... then he lost them in his very next fight when Roy came back from HW to beat him.. then Tarver got em back in the rematch... then he lost to Johnson... then he beat Johnson and Roy in the rubbermatch... then Tarver lost to BHOP, had a couple more wins and then lost to Dawson twice.

Also Tarver only picked up those two titles in 03, because Roy vacated the division briefly... so he beat Montell for them, then he lost them in the same year.

The belts thing was sill; Roy was literally winning and defending them against Tarver if you factor that he elected not to vacate his Ring belt before Tarver I. Love this stuff.

I'm looking more at the overall body. Tarver lost some but avenged all until Hopkins and he consistently fought top ten guys, had a nice streak from Carter to Griffin, Jones 2 of 3, and probably deserved the first Johnson decision. His back end was bad. If I'm rating, I probably go Jones, Dawson, Tarver; just noting I can see a case at 1 for all of them.

I wasn't dismissing Tarver... I was just stating exactly what happened.

You end up rating Jones as #1 then....

It's hard not to. From 00-03, he was still IMO the best fighter in the world. The slip starts in Tarver I and then avalanches, but he still has that first win. That Roy would be Light Heavyweight champ right now though Dawson may be getting the seasoning to make a case against that.
