Well, his popularity increased once he started calling out JCC JR after his fights. You could be right, but I have family in Morelia and Oaxaca who are very familiar him. But you could very well be right.

He's known in Mexico, but he's not a superstar in Mexico compare to the other great Mexican fighters.

JMM is more popular in the US than Mexico. The majority of Mexican boxing fans like JMM.

          No.

JMM is not really a star.

He's not even that popular in Mexico.

After Barrera and Morales, Marquez had to step in to fill their shoes and most people didn't give two ****s about him.

Alvarez and Arce are more commonly known when I go down to Jalisco.

Marquez has more fans in the U.S. than Mexico.

relatively........since the tv networks have been pushing boxing fro a few years now......

he is not really a superstar though......if we listed mexico's biggest sports stars, in terms of popularity, he probably wouldnt even make the 100 list.....

i remember 24/7 showing that **** with marquez in azteca stadium watching mexico vs usa...........how they make it seem like people are screaming for him, but in the camera shot, most people are minding their own bussiness.... .....

and on top of that, 2 of his last 3 fights were not on free tv(all 3 if you live in a frontier town and if you didnt, they showed jmm-mayweather late as hell)......

Marco Antonio Barrera expects to beat Amir Khan next Saturday, but still craves popularity in his homeland, he tells Kevin Mitchell

I don't know why people try perpetuating that myth, that those guys or boxing in general is popular

Is this before he sold out to Mayweather or After?
