but he didnt have the experience and tito did, thats not tito fault that vargas was supposed inexperienced, if he had beaten tito then ppl wouldve said back then oh tito got old haha, they wouldve said that because tito was champion for a long time....Comment

I made this post and I've always believed it
The best fighter in my mind to emerge from the Olympics wasn't mayweather, but Vargas.Floyd has gone on to become greater than Vargas, but he never looked as natural a fighter as Vargas looked at that stage in his career.Vargas was fighting experienced top opposition while he was still a prospect and in some cases handing out beatings.
Had Vargas been brought along the way Ward,Dirrell and Khan had been brought along, then you would have seen a still fit Vargas fighting today at an elite level and a future hall of famer, but his handlers used him and burned him.Last edited by donkim; 02-02-2010, 02:26 AM.Comment

Vargas was only 22 when he fought Tito. WAY TOO EARLY. It would be like Saul Alvarez fighting Pacquaio or Mayweather next fight, he would get ruined an thats what happened to Vargas. Botom line he schooled Campas,Quartey,an Marquez b4 22. Had they paced em 4 a few more years he would have a chance to be a "Great" fighter.Comment

you know what the funny thing is about most boxing scene posters if fernando vargas was a young active champion today and he didnt fight tito there would be 50 threads on how vargas is ducking tito and how he cherry picks his opponents. maybe we should think about the way a young good fighter like vargas was pushed too fast when discussing our current crop of prospects and young champions.Comment

o the low blows that a low blow to a tito fan lol. Nah tito would have won, I will say one thing one i never expected vargas to get up after the second knockdown in the first and two he showed so much heart in that fight it wasn't even funny. The people who managed vargas career did a ****ty job period. I didn't know he was 22 when he fought tito R U SERIOUS PEOPLE that is ridiculusComment

Yes. Absolutely. Except for the hated, tres/quartos Gringo, Oscar De La Hoya who schools the small-town cholo, Vargas, 10 for 10.This was something that someone posted in another thread. I can believe it. thoughts?
Trinidad fought an inexperienced kid and went through life and death with him before picking up one of the most impressive wins of his career.Had Vargas had two more or three more years of ring experience, then he would have beaten Trinidad,De La Hoya and any other fighter at 154.Comment

did people expect the top 2 junior middles not to fight? just like age doesn't matter and you could be shot at age 30 age doesnt matter and you can be ready at age 22. vargas was already a top amateur with loads of experience, had 20 pro fights against some of the best fighters such as yory boy campos, raul marquez, ike quartey, and winky wright. what more do you want? 20 defenses against bums? if he won that fight he would have been a huge star but it didn't work out. he took his chance and went down trying. more than i can say for calzaghe or some of these other anti-risk "fighters"Comment
