Did being in "The Contender" help or hurt???

Sergio Mora, Peter Manfredo, Alfonzo Gomez, Sakio Bika, and now Jessi Brinkley.....these are all kats that were on the show that made some type of noise after....some look at these kats and automatially associate them as characters in a show....not REAL boxers......others have heard first heard of them and follow them only because they first saw them on the show......

Question for who ever wants to chime in....did the show help or hurt these kats????

its kind of a gamble the way i see it.

some of these dudes got big fights, undoubtebly bcuz of the contender. if they made the most of it and won, then the contender helped them cuz they got a chance to prove themselfs. like sergio mora, after becoming world champ u gotta take him somewhat seriously.

but if they looked trash they got that stamp of being reality TV stars and not real fighters instead, and looked like clowns. like peter manfredo.

obviously it helped their careers. They would be no names without the show.

Don't forget Stevie Forbes rejuvenated his career with the contender and landed fights against Oscar de la hoya and andre berto. No way in hell that could have happened any other way.

Whats up with the last winner, the cruiserweight? cant remember his name

The Contender is a great way to get people to know your name. I think The Contender is a great concept.

the fact is, without the show most of these guys would be where they were before it, average contenders and thats about it.

Definitely helped, most got exposure that exceeded their talent and are still living quite well from it.

As for why Sakio Bika is not getting better fights, I think that's more about people not too keen on facing him instead of being the fault of the Contender...

                  troy ross.

i heard talk of him fighting afolabi a while back but obviously it never happened. havent really heard nothin from any of those guys since being on the show. and some of them were well respected fighters coming into the show, like wilson, cora jr and that kid who challenged for a title twice at 175. dont remember his name..

Its been good for the fighters imo. It makes them more marketable which means they make more money, and I am all for that. The divide in wealth between the top and the bottom of the ladder is even more huge than in football when you weigh up the risk.
