Roach said not too long ago that he was interested in Manny facing Mosley, but that Shane would have to come down to meet Pacquiao at a catch weight of 143, and according to Roach, Mosley was having none of it at the time and declined to take the fight.
Now, it looks as if Mosley has changed his tune and is agreeable to take the fight, but the question is whether Pacquiao is interested in taking the fight. This would be a very tough fight for Pacquiao to take, because he would likely not be able to knock the tough-chinned Mosley out.
And if Pacquiao couldn’t score a knockout over Mosley, then Manny could find himself in a situation where he might lose the fight and end up messing up his chance for a huge payday against the winner of Mayweather vs. Marquez.
A fight against Mosley would be a huge fight as well, but not nearly as big as getting the winner of Marquez-Mayweather, obviously. Pacquiao has shown himself to be pretty fearless in the past about taking on dangerous opponents but in this case I don’t know whether this would be his call or not.
His promoter Bob Arum would be the one to pull the trigger on this bout, and if he’s interested in Pacquiao taking this fight then there’s a good chance that we will be seeing Pacquiao and Mosley very shortly. It’s a obviously a tempting bout for Pacquiao and his management team to take, because if they can stay busy and get a huge payday against Mosley and then follow it up with a fight against Mayweather or Marquez, then it will be a huge windfall for Pacquiao.
The risk, though, is the real problem for Pacquiao, because unless they force Mosley’s hand by requesting that he comes in at 140 or maybe even lower than that, Mosley may end up being too strong for Pacquiao to handle.
