You know how most fights now arn't really PPV worthy? This fight is the perfect example of a fight that should be PPV if it happened.

This one would be a sleeper because both guys are too tactical savy to a mistake against each other, see Roy Jones Jr vs Bernard Hopkins, see James Toney vs Roy Jones Jr. This would be a sleeper matchup, but Toney would win because as smart as Bernard is, Toney is more smart and more crafty and more powerfull but it would be boring UD win.

Hopkins is a boxer, Toney fairs alot better against fighters and particularly agressive fighters than he does boxers, particularly crafty, defensive minded boxers like Hopkins, they would both hardly throw any punches in hope of countering each other, it would be wierd and awkward, Hopkins would be too smart to play as the agressor against the stronger more powerfull master counter puncher Toney.

It won't happen now but it was signed at one point, it was even on the HBOPPV web page on the schedule before the fight fell through.

Toney would have brought the fight to Hopkins with relentless forward movement imho. He would have hit Hopkins hard while up against the ropes...it would have been interesting.

Everyone is forgetting that Hopkins said he was going to go to cruiser for the fight. Cruiser? Ha! Hopkins, who is not even hurting middleweights anymore was going to face Toney who was a big cruiser at the time and now a heavyweight? I can't believe this thread. Toney would have slaughtered Hopkins and there is no doubt about that. I am not even a Toney fan and I can see how easily he would have destroyed Hopkins.

I completely disagree Exciter. There is no way Toney would slaughter hopkins now.....or in the past. I give Nard the advantage in all categories with the exception of counterpunching and Punching Power. Nard is smarter, Faster, Slicker, has as good or better of a chin, and more heart.

He showed that by having his shoulder dislocated in the early part of the echols fight.....and continued fighting.

Nobody in boxing has a better chin that Toney. But Nard is advantage of Toney is his tallness, and he moves better on his feet, and his jab.

I would pick Hopkins to win only because he is the more mobile fighter on his feet.
