Mayweather Legacy question: Would Margarito have been a better win than Baldomir

Did Floyd make the right decision fighting the lineal champ Baldomir rather than fighting Margarito? What would have been better for his legacy. Think back to that time and the status that Baldo and Marg had.

    Baldomir (The lineal champ)
    36.67%

    Margarito

I don't think you can really argue with his decision at the time, unless your completely dumb and bias.

Obviously though.. Legacy wise, it seems the better choice would be Margarito.

I think baldomir was a good choice, lineal champ and all... should have fought marg as well... But who knows, Tony may have tried to cheat, and we may not even be questioning floyds legacy, floyd may have been seriously injured and forced into retirement.

Neither guy would have done much for his resume...Margarito is obviously the better name now...

So the answer to the question is yes...but not by very much IMO...

My only fault with Floyd is that he fought Hatton when Cotto was around...

In retro perspective it would have been... Margarito established himself as the better fighter afterwards...

At the moment of the fight it was pretty even and Baldomir had established momentum... he was undefeated and beat Gatti and Judah...

Margarito fought his share of contenders (guys who were ranked) who were worthy... but only one of them was/were a champion... I personally make a difference between guys that are ranked at a time in their career and ain't get bigger then that or guys who actually were champions... he then went on and fought guys like Cintron, Williams, Clottey, Cotto, Mosley who were or was champions at the time.

But a lot of ppl see it different... I had a discussion with IMDAZED about that... he feels that Margarito's resume was better and that he should have fought him instead... I pretty much don't care about that match-up... I felt he left the Cotto fight laying as he retired

In retrospect, yes. But at the time he was in a tough spot what with just fighting a guy who had lost to Baldomir just one fight prior and also the lineal and WBC being up for grabs.

So I feel if the Baldomir fight hadn't occurred it could have been just as bad for his image, if not worse, at the time.

At hindsight, baldo was the better choice.
