Calm down with the nut hugging. You about to give Martinez fans a bad name.

    "Sent Paul tot he hospital"

Shut the hell up. You act like he was on life support.

My first exposure to Sergio Martinez was about 4 years ago through youtube after seeing his name associated couple of times with Margarito. After seeing a couple of his fights, I made sure I kept my eye on him since I felt he had the tools necessary to be a name in the sport.

Since his domination of Bunema on HBO in late 2008, Martinez has showed his grit, skill, speed and slickness against Kermit Cintron and Paul Williams. Sure, he didn't win those fights. He got a draw with Cintron and super close loss to Williams, both, which could be argued in favor to Martinez. But he definitely made a great account for himself gaining many new fans. He shows incredible promise and it seems clear to most fans that he will be a problem for anyone in 154 and 160.

But, there are some that are still not convinced. I would like to know what you have seen or HAVENT seen in Martinez that leads you to believe he is more hype than truth?
He's somewhat hype. Not in the sense he's bad, far from it. As you said and i agree with everything, he's pretty good. But since when do we get excited about a good fighter? So, some of it is hype by our beloved f4ggot community but he's a good boxer who can and uses movement. I like to see him fight. He shouldn't take breaks though.

He has underrated toughness and he can mess you about, however he is not particularly hard to hit but seems to have a big heart and decent chin to ride his luck in that department, he will be trouble for any one dimensional fighter with defensive issues but not against a technically sound fighter who can apply pressure without leaving spots for Martinez to take advantage of, both Williams and Pavlik come straight ahead with little regard for defense, would like to see how Martinez would cope with even a prospect like Guerroro or Jacobs, as green as they are i think they would pose problems.

No. Someone being over rated is someone like Bute, at least on here.

not sure...Martinez has an extra gear that most dont have...and more impressively, he has a knack for making in-fight adjustments...he did it in the Williams fight and did it again this past Saturday...he will be a handful for anyone

I can see what your saying, i thought he lacked a bit more of that in the Williams fight as i had Williams edging it on workrate, i felt IF! Martinez had dug that bit deeper he could of pulled it out, that is why i was skeptical of whether he would beat Pavlik, he would need to repel Pavlik the way he did Williams and going on the evidence of the Williams fight i was not sure he offered up enough offense to win, however he looked mentally stronger against Pavlik and the hard decisions he got seemed to hit home, he seemed to say to himself " i need to be more aggressive and show them im in control, winning the fight.

you gotta keep in mind tho, that was his first fight at 60 and he didnt have the full camp leading up to that fight...that's why i think he gassed out towards the end...not to take anything away from Williams because dealing with his volume would gas out most fighters...but i think a properly prepared Martinez is what was on display this past Saturday

he's a natural boxer, but he lacks true technical skills.

I've heard that before but the fact is that Martinez was training for a fight at 158. And Williams only weighed in at 157 so it's not like Martinez was facing some kind of weight disadvantage. It wasn't a factor.
