Do you think Sergio Martinez is overrated, if so, why?

Not making a poll anymore because we need some serious boxing discussion and that will just allow people to vote and not explain.

My first exposure to Sergio Martinez was about 4 years ago through youtube after seeing his name associated couple of times with Margarito. After seeing a couple of his fights, I made sure I kept my eye on him since I felt he had the tools necessary to be a name in the sport.

Since his domination of Bunema on HBO in late 2008, Martinez has showed his grit, skill, speed and slickness against Kermit Cintron and Paul Williams. Sure, he didn't win those fights. He got a draw with Cintron and super close loss to Williams, both, which could be argued in favor to Martinez. But he definitely made a great account for himself gaining many new fans. He shows incredible promise and it seems clear to most fans that he will be a problem for anyone in 154 and 160.

But, there are some that are still not convinced. I would like to know what you have seen or HAVENT seen in Martinez that leads you to believe he is more hype than truth?

Hater. Can't you see he's a sex symbol and a fighter. Not an easy thing to do.

i think he's underrated...i didn't see the Margarito fight until after the Bunema fight..since then, i think he's proven that he has the skill and determination to be an elite fighter

What if he's too sexy for his own good?

My only criticism of Martinez is the he isn't a finisher. In both the Cintron and Williams fights there were multiple times when I felt like if he just stepped it up one more notch he could have put either guy away. Either he was too tired to do so or he just doesn't have that killer instinct that the all time greats possess. Still a great boxer and one of my favorite to watch despite that.

The guy is a spectacle to watch.

He keeps his hands down while being still being slick and lands amazing counters.

            He's underrated IMO.

Even before the Williams fight I was saying that his style of fighting is very similar to my own.

I think he is vastly underrated. Did you guys read the boards before the Williams fight?

Everyone called him a scrub and a bum who would get ktfo.

If he fought Floyd, I'd pick Sergio by k.o.

I'd be willing to put real money on that fight.

Hes a very good fighter IMO. I think he gest overrated a bit because he "lost" to Williams. Every slick southpaw can give Paul trouble its not nothing to hang your hat on IMO.

I want to see him vs. Pavlik, Foreman and Dzindiruk before I call him GREAT. His resume doesnt have those wins on it to say that.
