Tommy "The Hit Man" Hearns vs Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr.

Question: Did you ever watch Hearns vs Sugar Ray Leonard? Basically you're saying Floyd would do what Leonard couldn't do. And Floyd does not punch hard enough at 147 to KO Hearns. Who other than Leonard hurt Hearns at that weight? Nobody. And Mayweather's power at that weight does not compare to Leonard's. Along with Hearns Jab and right, had a punishing jab and a devastating left hook to the body. If Delahoya could touch Floyd with the jab, how would a faster and more active fighter like Hearn's have so much trouble landing it. And Floyds right hands over the jab would not come easy aginst a fighter with the reach and speed of Thomas Hearns. You being from Detroit means nothing because you obviously didn't do your homework on The hitman at 147. This has nothing to do with Mayweather being a bum. But 147 is not his best weight and he doesn't bring enough at that weight to beat an all time great like Tommy Hearns. I don't see a KO for Hearns, but his offense is too much and he would force Mayweather to fight a defensive fight. Shouler roll or not, Mayweasther would eat some right hands in this fight. Enough to make him too inactive to win.As you know Ima Detroit guy and Tommy is Favorite of all time. I cant see him beating a guy as smart as Mayweather.
Tommys best weapon is a right hand. A punch Floyd is RARELY hit with due to his shoulder roll defense. Floyds foot speed and reflexes allow him to get inside Tommys Reach and makes Tommy fight a fight he doesnt want to fight. INSIDE GAME.
Floyd is light years ahead of the Hitman on the inside. I see Floyd deflecting shots and hitting Tommy with crisp , clean punches. Tommys chin was also his downfall and Floyd has the kind of speed and accuracy to land some good wins on Tommys chin. Punches that he wont see coming. FGloyds counter punching would be down right deadly vs. Hearns.
Tommys jab will pose problems until Floyd starts to time it with laser .....and I do mean LASER right hands over the top. Tommy is too easy to hit and Floyd is the complete opposite.
People who are picking Tommy because hes tall and hit hard need to go watch more boxing. Go watch some more Hearns tapes as well. He hates MOVEMENT.
People ned to stop acting like Floyd is some ****ing bum.
I got Floyd winning a comfortable decison. 8 -4. UD.Last edited by Calilloyd; 01-28-2010, 04:26 PM.Comment

I agree with you but I gave REFLEXES some green because although I disagree with his post I thought it was well written and had some effort put into his thoughts. Hearns being the TALLER and BIGGER MAN would fight that way for sure with Manny in his corner. It would be very difficult for Floyd to land the right hand over his jab if Hears had him at the proper distance. Floyds right hand would be ineffective. I truly think Hearns would pop that jan all night long and then dig the left hand down to the body when Floyd rolled his shoulder to avoid the jab and left hook to the head. To me I see KO written all over this one for Hearns in about 8-9- rounds....LeftyQuestion: Did you ever watch Hearns vs Sugar Ray Leonard? I actually see Hearns right hand being ineffective. Floyd cant be beaten by just being jabbed. Floyd is one the most skilled, talented and smartest fighters in the history of the sport. It will be a handful trying to beat Mayweather if hes just coming to jab.I agree with you but I gave REFLEXES some green because although I disagree with his post I thought it was well written and had some effort put into his thoughts. You dont need to hit like Tyson to KO someone. Tommy chin is not very good. Floyds speed and accuracy would not miss Hearns. And Floyd is very hard to hit. Thinking Hearns would just land on a guy who is the hardest to hit ighter sdince Sweet Pea is just crazy IMO. I think alot of people underrate just how good Floyd really is. 30 Years from now People will understand that.Comment

I think it's a pretty close fight. Of course we get the usual flood of morons who haven't seen Tommy fight but figure anyone vs Floyd is bound to result in a knockout loss for "Gayweather", but if you think about it, pretty good clash of styles. Hearns has the power to take Floyd out, but you can't just stomp out a guy as crafty and sound as Floyd.
I see Floyd being very cautious here, moving, mostly circling away from Tommy's right but changing it up, looking for the moment Tommy shifts position to jump in and potshot, I see Tommy asserting himself but not jumping in, knowing Floyd can counter him. If Tommy wins by knockout it is by breaking Floyd down to the body, then putting his foot on the pedal late and taking him out. But problem is Tommy was never a strong finisher down the stretch, and Floyd is damn smart, I'm going against a knockout here.
It's pretty close. Tommy controls it at times when he keeps Floyd re setting himself by using the jab, and keeping Floyd wary of his power, but Floyd is able to defend against most of the shots and move in to land clean ones and clean counters of his own at times. Tommy might fade a little down the stretch but Floyd isn't powerful or aggressive enough to KO him, but he is good enough to take those rounds off Tommy, where the jab isn't snapping like it was at the start and Floyd is able to dance to his own tune a little more. Look it is really very close, a draw wouldn't be out of the question, I actually see it going somewhat similar to DLH-Mayweather but much rougher for Floyd and way less standing in range like he did vs Oscar.
If I have to pick a winner, I say Tommy wins on points, being that he had Floyd on the defensive most of the time, and was able to control him for large stretches with the jab. But I'm not ruling out a draw or a skin of his teeth win for Floyd.
One of the most interesting fights I have ever thought about really, two really great fighters, two awesome styles, it would be more tactical than all out war, but very good to watch.Comment

Good breakdown. I have Floyd edging it out. Im glad you brought some sense to this thread. Floyd getting KO'd is downright laughable. I think ALOT of people on this forum dont understand boxing or even how Tommy fought or what troubles Tommy. Hed have his hands full with a guy as slick as Mayweather. Even Manny Steward said that.Comment

Oscar was winning rounds with his jab and then he stopped using it. That cost him the fight period end of story. Tommy Hearns had a much better jab and he used it better. I think he would use it an be effective with it....LeftyI actually see Hearns right hand being ineffective. Floyd cant be beaten by just being jabbed. This a great post I like the scenario you play out in your post. I think this is one of the greatest match ups that could be made all time...LeftyI think it's a pretty close fight. He didn't stop using it. He was getting punched in the face flush by right hands after Floyd started timing his ass. Then he just tried to go for broke and got his ass beat worse. Floyd TOOK the jab from Oscar and Oscar didnt land ONE left hook the whole night. His best punch. He lost because Floyd rarely missed him.
If your getting countered like clockwork and missing what you throw back. You wont win boxing fights.
"It wasnt the night of the jab"-----Oscar.
Damn right it wasnt taking flush right hands to the nose might make you keep that jab in a high guard instead.Comment
