Comments Thread For: Khan-Maidana Clash, Schaefer Wants To Build The Fight

WBA light-welterweight Amir Khan could soon be sharing a ring with mandatory challenger Marcos Maidana, although they may not both occupy that ring at the same time. Golden Boy Promotions have negotiated a two-week extension to their WBA-mandated talks with Maidana’s team, with Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer claiming that this fight needs to be built up. This fight isn't big enough to be built up. Khan should either fight Maidana or vacate his belt.

Khan is the champ and Maidana is the mandatory, it is that simple, either he defends or he vacates. I didn't see Khan build up Salita for that match. They can spin it any way they want but it is obvious what they are trying to do

This is absolute BS, this dude is plain and simply doing all he can to avoid Maidana, wtf is the reason to have mandatories in the first place if most of the times they never get their shot when they have earned it? Khan has never fought in US soil so why not make this fight against the guy who destroyed Ortiz. If Khan were to win this fight impressively his stock would increase and cause more buzz in the US.

In other words, "I want to make some money out of Khan before I put him in the ring with a real contender."

Just when I was starting to respect Khan for wanting the Maidana fight, they go and pull him out of it.

This is making Khan look like a *****, and the sad thing is that for all we know Khan might actually want the fight. Its his promoters that seem to think he isn't ready for a big puncher again.

Now everybody wants to build up fights...

Golden Boy wants to build Khan & Maidana to a Mega fight & Arum wants to build up Juanma & Gamboa to a Mega fight..¿What ever happend to days when fighters fought whoever was next with no problems or politics to deal with?..Plus trying to build up fight's when it's not really necessary is dangerous, cause in boxing anything can happen & change the hole scenario with just one punch, & it has happened before many times...Sometimes promoters try to get greedy & want to make big things bigger & end up with little or nothing..

                  Perfectly said.

                  This isn't Lopez-Gamboa.

Schaefer is no Arum, and he doesn't need to be trying to act like this would be a big deal when it isn't, and never will be.

i think this would be a good u.s debut for khan mainly for the hardcore fans, although ideally they would want a name fighter with less risk (marquez suits down to the ground) as the debut then maidana, which honestly i think is fair enough hes just made a mandatory, he should get an optional defence first, there should never be interim titles in the first place, but of course the maidana fight is the one that gets me excited the most i just think he should be allowed an optional.
