the information given in this article is very very vague. But knowing these idiots who run these corrupt organizations, I would be very surprised if anything GOOD came out of this UNITY.

          did anybody think of this????????

i think there should be a "unified" title. if all three major organisations agreed that their individual title holders at each weight should hold a "super tournament" like the one at supermiddleweight at the moment and then,
titles should be fought for like this leaving one winner.
then, when an established undisputed, unified title holder has emerged he should relinquish all and any belts but remain king and hold the "unified" title and he would be the recognised champ by all three major bodies.
as for the remaining vacant belts, they could be fought over by whoever is ranked accordingly and winners face the unified champion for the title.
this will eliminate all the fuss over fighters having to relinquish titles to fight other fighters and so on......also, any fighter looking to avoid certain fighters would not happen.
in this scenario you would have to fight who you would HAVE to fight if you wanted to be the champ.
          what does everybody think???????????????

One of the reasons why people often respect champions of the past more then the champions of today is, that even 30 years ago there were only two recognizable belts (WBC and WBA). There was one real champ and no idiot could grab a silly strap and proclaim himself "one and only"... Since IBF, WBO and IBO appeared, people took serious lots of fake and silly championships ( like Ottke, Calzaghe and Michalczewski...). Don`t get me wrong, Dariusz was good, but the presence of WBO let the superfight between RJJ and Dariusz never happen...

On the other hand, being a unified champion is not very pleasant for the fighter as he has to pay each of the sanctioning bodies, who`s belts he`s currently holding... There`s quite a reason why B-Hop is the only one in history who was holding 4 belts at once...

Nowadays almost all of these sanctioning bodies suck...

WBA became a trash long ago... Just try to figure out how many champions do they possibly can have...

WBC was pretty good, bud during the last year, very rapidly it became as stinky as the above-mentioned...

IBF is rather good IMO... On the one hand it is strict with mandatories (which is good; forget the Povetkin case), but on the other hand, this strictness sometimes prevents some big fights from happening (Cheato and Clottey had to give up their belts to fight Cotto)...

As for WBO... What can you say about them? Just to say, that this sanctioning body let three no-more-then-good boxers to come as close as possible to the record of great Joe Louis, is enough...

            The end.

              Not a bad plan.

To add to it, even if they just agree that mandatory's can be delayed automatically if there is a unification fight set up so fighters dont get stripped trying to unify the division. i.e a champion has the choice of fighting a mandatory or to unify or else he's stripped.

As brilliant as it would be to have 1 belt, its unrealistic so your plan of having a unified champion and then regular WBA/WBC/IBF champions who the unified champion has to fight would be a start.

So they want to work together on better drug testing and officiating.

Sounds good. We just need to know HOW.

                      I like the potential.

Maybe they could make a rule where every few years there is a Highlander style "quickening" to get rid of those sub par champs.

                      "There can be only one."
