Kelly Pavlik would leave Top Rank if they ever agreed to 50-50, and he would be well within his rights to. Paul Williams couldn't even fill the basement of Boardwalk Hall fighting Martinez.

this is such nonsense.
No reason for the Williams fight to not happen.
Pavlik is the MW champ therefore he gets more $$.
Pretty simple. How anyone can say different its just idiotic.Comment

It would be interesting to see if Pavlik got 50/50 from Taylor before Pavlik won his belts. If Williams wants the fighter who has 3 belts (i'm including the ring belt),he needs to take them for a reasonable price.Williams isn't half the draw as Pavlik-even today as Pavlik's fanbase is mellowing out,Paul is still a lesser commodity. If he wants the glory, the belts,a bigger name,legacy,etc-he needs to take whatever is reasonable-not equal.I really don't know where to start on this thread? So, I will start with Taylor being labeled a C level fighter. Pavlik was the first to take Taylor out and then out boxed him in the rematch. And as anyone knows, that knows anything about boxing, Taylor's problems where never with his boxing skills. And if you want proof look no further then the fact that he was boxing circles around Fraud Froch, oh excuse me I really meant Carl, until the stoppage. And I will admit that I did not see the Taylor-Abraham fight. But, I have read nothing about the fight that would indicate that Abraham was dominating Taylor before the stoppage. And if not for a point deduction it would have been a very close decision. So, to label Taylor a C level fighter is absolutely ridiculous. Now, onto the claim that Pavlik needs Williams.
Williams has fought in three welterweight title fights, and by the way his only title fights. And out of those three he lost to a fighter who is ranked around 40th in the world and many of the so called experts believe he even lost to old blaster fist as well. So, he was in no way shape or form a dominating fighter at welterweight. And then he fought two old, no make that very old, fighters in Phillips and Wright. He then almost gets his a$$ handed to him by a non-power punching Jr. Middleweight who moved up in weight to fight him. By the way I thought Martinez won. And what about Williams at Middleweight? Well, technically speaking Wright was a middleweight but he was old and and he had not fought, which was also a loss, in almost two years before he fought Williams and has not fought since. So, even to the most novice amongst us it has to be very clear that Winky's better days are long gone. So, for good reason, the discussion of Williams fighting at Middleweight was a very short one.
In closing I believe I have presented facts that prove that Williams was not a dominating fighter at Welterweight, Jr. Middleweight or at Middleweight. So, with that said will someone please, or at least try, to explain to me why Williams even deserves a shot at the Ring, lineal, WBC as well as the WBO Middleweight Championship of the World? Because to me, and I am no expert, he has not even earned a shot at the title much less a 50/50 cut. And if I was part of Team Pavlik I would have laughed in his over rated face when he dared to ask for it.Comment

I actually believe Martinez is a tougher fight for Pavlik than Williams.Martinez moves around and lures you into traps whereas Williams gives up his height advantage by fighting on the inside. If fighting toe to toe with Kelly is his plan,I do not believe Williams has the power to stop Pavlik, but Pavlik certainly has the power to drop Williams.Neither Williams or Pavlik are evasive,so it should be a pretty decent fight.Comment

Good point, actually the rematch was suposedly 50-50. Doubt the original was even close to that.It would be interesting to see if Pavlik got 50/50 from Taylor before Pavlik won his belts. If Williams wants the fighter who has 3 belts (i'm including the ring belt),he needs to take them for a reasonable price.Williams isn't half the draw as Pavlik-even today as Pavlik's fanbase is mellowing out,Paul is still a lesser commodity. If he wants the glory, the belts,a bigger name,legacy,etc-he needs to take whatever is reasonable-not equal.Comment

Thanks. The point I was making was that,Pavlik was coming up the ranks and earning his paydays. He was hungry for world recognition to the point that he would have fought "the man" in Taylor for his belts and a much smaller percentage than what Williams currently wants.I loathe business,it has been over-emphasized in sports creating "champions" who are content with settling for big money fights, not big competition, yet still wanting to claim legacy-it's a joke.Keep in mind most of these fighters only want to put in the work 2 times a year, whereas the older fighters fought for much less, and fought much more....todays primmadonnas would suffer in earlier eras...Comment

I like the skills Williams possesses, but I am starting to think he is called "the most feared man in boxing" because nobody wants to deal with his bull**** demands in negotiations....Comment
