LAS VEGAS (AP) — Manny Pacquiao upped the ante Wednesday in his standoff with Floyd Mayweather Jr. by filing a lawsuit alleging that Mayweather and others defamed him by falsely accusing Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs.

The suit filed in federal court in Las Vegas further complicates efforts to reach an agreement for a proposed March 13 fight between the two boxers.

The suit asks for damages in excess of $75,000 and names Mayweather, his father, Floyd Sr., and uncle Roger Mayweather as defendants. Also named are Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer, who operate Golden Boy Promotions and are promoting Mayweather.

The lawsuit comes as last ditch talks are still ongoing to salvage the fight, which has been derailed by demands from Mayweather's camp for random blood testing of the two fighters

    damn you *****s are ******.

it says in EXCESS OF $75,000. That means that Pac has to sue for atleast 75k, but is not limited to 75k. damn you guys are idiots.

          it's not 75k.

that's the minimum for that court.

there's different courts for different amounts of money involved.

ever heard the term SMALL CLAIMS court? wouldn't it make sense that they have a court for the opposite?

well i don't know what they call it in federal court.

i don't even think federal court has a small claims division.

from what i've read 75k is the minimum for a civil lawsuit of that type to be filed. not sure though. i'm not a lawyer.

regardless of the amounts and whatnot...i can't see a judge awarding pac X amount of millions of dollars from floyd mayweather...rarely are people sued for that much and the award is that high...it will probably be knocked down to a couple hundred thousand (if anything because i still believe that he has very little of a case) of what can be proven through concrete evidence...

Usually they break cival cases down into three different courts all the states have different rules and names for things so it is complicated but yea one court would do like 5,000 and less one would do 5,001-75,000 and one over 75,000.

I think all cival matters are in state courts, as federal implies government involvement and all cival matters are person to person been a long time since I had a law class though.

Anyways Manny will be lucky to get 75,000 if Floyd Sr. is the only one forced to pay damages, how much are they really going to be able to get out of him?

i don't think money is the point.

even if it's just $75,000.00 , if they can win it (IF) a federal judge saying the mayweather's slandered him/his reputation could help turn public opinion somewhat.

this pr mess was poorly handled by team pac. if i was manny i would be upset.

as far as how much they'll pay if pac wins the suit......who knows?

sometimes the penalty is not based on the amount of damages but as a form of punishment.

delahoya , mayweather , schaeffer , etc. have very deep pockets.

if they were found libel and judge decides to award a judgement not based on the amount of financial damages suffered by pacquiao but a judgement high enough to punish them......we could be talking a lot of money.

i think the best case could probably be against floyd sr.

don't know about jr. , schaeffer and delahoya.

i think golden boy can get hurt if after this pacquiao goes to court to get their promotional rights to him off.
