I'm like Cotto and I think most boxing fans in that I thought nothing of this whole thing until Pac refused the testing. Then hearing his alternating reasons as to why he is refusing has made me su****ious.[/QUOTE]

Pac agreed to unlimited random urine test. Urine test is better test in detecting EPO than blood test.

Urine testing can detect EPO.....but not its not as effective as a blood test. It is easier to mask the EPO in the urine than in the blood.

Blood test will detect the Level of Hematocrit and Hemoglobin level which will be unusually high if someone is using the EPO and that Is an indirect test. But Dr. Catlin who developed the test for EPO said that that urine test will directly detect it better than blood test.

In the 1990s, Catlin began to offer the carbon isotope ratio test, a urine test that determines whether anabolic steroids are made naturally by the body or come from a prohibited performance-enhancing drug. [20][21]
In 2002 at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he reported darbepoetin alfa, a form of the blood booster EPO (erythropoietin), for the first time in sports.[22]
Also in 2002, he identified norbolethone, the first reported designer anabolic steroid used by an athlete.[23][24]
In 2003, as part of the investigation of BALCO, he identified and developed a test for tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) or “The Clear,” the second reported designer anabolic steroid. In Nov. 2009, 'Newsweek' named Trevor Graham's decision to send a syringe containing the substance to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) (which then passed it on to Catlin for analysis) as one of the decade's Top-10 History-Altering Decisions.[25]
In 2004, Catlin identified madol, the third reported designer anabolic steroid, also known as DMT, and since 2004 he and his team have identified several more designer steroids.[26]
In 2009, he and his team at Anti-Doping Research developed an equine test for the potent blood-boosting drug CERA, short for the brand name Mircera; also known as Continuous erythropoietin receptor activator

Catlin developed the test for THG because the testers got their hands on a sample. Before that they were clueless. BALCO had the testers beaten cold for many yrs. "The Clear" at the time it was developed by Balco was prob the most sophisticated steroid on the planet.....all u need to do is hold a few drops of this stuff under your tongue.

The testers will always be behind the cheaters unfortunately. This is why they have started taking blood, so they can freeze a sample and test years into the future for PED's they did not know existed or their testing procedures were not sophisticated enough to detect at the time.

I'm dissapointed with Manny because he should view this as an opportunity to lift boxing on his shoulders.....instead he is dragging it down.

Imagine if this was his reply:

"No problem Floyd...i agree. Our business is brutal and unforgiving. Fair play should be a right. Whilst the NSAC does a good job i see no reason why as boxers we should not subject ourselves to the most rigourous PED testing regime avaliable. This is especially more important given the nature of our sport. I have nothing to hide and have no problem with this request. On another note, Floyd im going to whoop your ass for the insinuation!!!""

Done!!! Issue closed + solved in 30 seconds. boxing looks better than it has in the last decade and Manny is heralded as the MAN!!!

Urine testing is the accepted norm for EPO. But unless the tester actually sees the urine come out of Mannys piss hole = incredibly easy to supply testers with clean urine that is not your own.

Yes you are right. BUT the urine test developed for EPO has been recently adapted to blood to screen for new ESA's. Basically ESA's are agents that stimulate red blood cell production.....newer forms of EPO may not be detected in the urine like the older forms. Also whilst it is accepted as the best test atm urine testing alone has been criticised by other doctors/chemist because it is dificlut to distinguish between pharmacuetical EPO and the EPO that occurs naturally in the human body.

Do i do tend to give Conte's comments some weight even though he is not a chemist/doctor he was involved with Patrick Arnold the man who created THG.

Thats why WADA and other agencies take both blood urine. They have a statute of limitations of something like 10 yrs to continually test the samples as new forms of EPO and steroids are discovered.

Also just to point out to people .....EPO can be undetectable after only a few days but the effects last for weeks.

In cycling they take both blood and urine.

Cotto was stopped by Pacquiao last month in Las Vegas. In a statement sent to BoxingScene.com, Cotto said Pacquiao should agree to the requested tests to elimate any doubts about his talents. He feels that Pacquiao's refusal to take unrestricted tests will create questions among the public. [Click Here To Read More]
Both under Arum. He told Cotto to say it. Hyping the fight. Fight has to take place.
