Filipinos are generally superstitious that almost everything you're doing has negative or positive vibe. Just look at his mother, if you've watch some local news you'll know. Efren Bata Reyes, another pool HoF, doesn't take a bath during competition especially if it's championship already. They worry that breaking that belief might cause them bad luck.

It might sound outrageous especially if you've grown up in a western country but if you can only live here or even do a research you'll know how superstitious Filipinos are.
