honestly, its already been said but ill say it again, losing that muscle after coming down for heavyweight really jut took something out of him. You can look at him and tell he had actually bulked up for the fight so he wasnt just a blown up light heavy. Its no way to go back down the way he did healthy in 8 months and at his age, it wouldve took something out of him no matter how long he waited to go back down

If he stayed at heavyweight and fought Holyfield like so many people wanted, then retired, then we'd be talking about Roy being one of the 10 best fighters ever, instead of whether or not he had any skills.

Going back down to light-heavy took years off his career.

Yeah but going down in weight and fighting the #1LHW in the division was not only a huge win, but a historic win. Matching the record of Bob Fitsimmons who not only went from MW up to HW but also came back down to LHW.

Roy wanted to match what Fitsimmons did, and not just half ass it.

IMO A win over #1LHW Champion in Tarver, on top of the difficult task of coming down 2 weight classes to do it, was a better win than beating an aging Holyfield.

recently? he ain't been himself for almost five years now...post ruiz he's only beat c-level comp and a 2 year laid off trinidad, while losing to tarver, johnson, and green by ko....couldn't do nothing with calzaghe...the more he fights and loses, the farther away his prime seems....

No he needs to leave B-Hop alone.

Seeing B Hop clown on Roy in the ring at this stage wouldn't be nice. Bernard needs to just move on and Roy needs to retire.

I think saying that Roy never knew the basics etc is disrespectful. Of course he did he just added his own spin to things and was extremely successful with it. He was a natural showman and we should be grateful that he existed.

TBH I see a lot of people sorta talk down about RJJ but he was amazing and we need to remember him at his best when rating his stature. He took a risk losing all that weight quickly to face Tarver and fighting Johnson not that long after getting KTFO, he should have rested. I wonder if he'd taken some time off after the Tarver KO whether he may have come back stronger, but we know how a lot of boxers don't know when to stop.

retirement after beating tarver would have been the best decision.
