TV will get behind good fights. Arum has to come out of the pocket because he's not willing to risk his guys. Thus no TV $$ will get behind the trashy cards that he puts up. Take this weekend for example. Pavlik vs Unknown guy with no shot to win or Williams vs Martinez. Which one should TV get behind?

That was a close fight that most of the media scored for Cotto. Nothing nearly as bad as Toney-Oquendo, for example.Comment

In response to comments that were made on Saturday night by WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik and his promoter Bob Arum [Click Here To Read] - Paul Williams' promoter, Dan Goossen, has fired back with comments of his own. Goossen is willing to negotiate with Top Rank for Pavlik-Williams, as long as there is a 50-50 co-promotion on the event. Goossen counters Arum's comments regarding the contract for Pavlik-Williams in 2008 and December 5, 2009. [Click Here To Read More]
Looks like Williams promoters will negotiate themselves out of the fight. How convenient. Sad since Paul wants anyone a anytime and is a throwback fighter... What they fail to realize is Pavlik has the belts, Williams isnt in line for a title shot, he is fortunate to have the opportunity without fighting other top MWs for it. Wouldnt be suprised if they will look for another big fight probably at WW.Comment

Did Arum have tv money to get a better opponent? You guys keep talking about this independent PPV. But, you fail to realize he is not getting help for tv to get a better opponent. No he shouldn't, it should be 50/50. Pwills beat notable names such as Margarito, Wright(still good fighter even if u wanna say past it), and Martinez(close fight but still got in their with him). Pavliks beaten Zertuche, Miranda, and Taylor. 50/50, anymore and Pavliks a *****.Comment

i agree... i thought clottey won the first fight too, but there were a lot of rounds that could've went either way....what i learned from williams-martinez, is that NO close fight can be considered a "robbery" or a "gift" for a certain fighter....
yessir...when's the last time arum came together with another promoter and put on a good card? it's silly for ppl to say the sport would be "dying" if not for arum...IMO the sport would be better without most of the promoters involved....Before HBO started catering to Alvin Haymon and GBP they were catering to Top rank and arum but he only put together a few decent fights in years, When GBP started signing alot of good fighters HBO stop giving Top rank money for them to put on any fights when they could choose from other options.
The only great fights that Arum could sell to HBO are the fights involving his own fighters with him knowing he would end up making money from both fighters purse, If not he would put on silly fights.
For once i agree with the way HBO were running thing apart from giving GBP all the dates.
williams will fight martinez again, if he cannot get a fair contract for pavlik...considering many ppl thought martinez won the first time around, i wouldn't necessarily fault paul for taking that fight instead of pavlik...in fact, i'd applaud it.

hard to judge a fight when it's put together at the last minute, and both fighters have about a month to train.Comment
