Comments Thread For: Cotto vs Foreman: Miguel Would Consider a Move Up

Former two-division champion Miguel Cotto is six months away from his ring return. It was a big year of ups and downs for Cotto. He made a record amount of money [for his career] in 2009. Cotto beat Michael Jennings in February for the WBO title, retained it in June with a close decision over Joshua Clottey and then got stopped by Manny Pacquiao in November. Prior to the fight with Clottey, he was involved in a brawl with ex-trainer/uncle Evangelista Cotto. His uncle has since filed a lawsuit seeking millions of dollars. Not the only trouble in Cotto's life, as now a former female employee has filed a sexual harrasment suit naming Cotto and several of his family members. [Click Here To Read More]

Firstly, Poppa, sort the servers out big man!!

Secondly, i don't see this being a wise move, if Pacquiao can hurt Cotto badly (not saying Manny is a light pucher at all) then what will a genuine 154lbr do to him???

I'm not sure I like this idea.

Can anyone give me a solid example of a fighter who was promising at a lower weight, got beat up and knocked out twice, and then had success moving up and facing larger champions?

      Genuine question there.

Not a good move IMO. Arum should be trying to get Cotto the Hatton fight not one with another one of his fighters just to keep the money in house. Also Cotto needs a tune up at 154 to see how he feels at that weight before going for a belt.

Bad idea he just came off a beating (a big one at that) and the last thing he needs is to move up in weight to take on another fighter with size advantage and decent boxing skill. I think it’s a recipe for a downfall, I mean I hope not because I like and respect Cotto.

                    Peace.
