Beating Shane/Berto would be far more relevant in ATG terms,
over the long-haul: 10, 20, or 50 years from now... boxing fans
will look at a back-out-of-retirement Floyd who loses to Pac,
and shrug --what was that fight all about? Why was it made?
The flipside: what if a back-out-of-retirement Floyd beats Pac? What does that say about Pac?

Actually, several people are acknowledging that the decade ends in two weeks.... but they're willing to hold off for another couple of months to hand out the crown.

Foe example, say that Floyd won Fighter of the Decade next week. And then Pac destroys him in March. How meaningful was it, really?

          Or vice versa?

            That he couldn't defeat a back-out-of-retirement Floyd.
More could be said, but depends on the severity of the loss.

It’s an unlikely scenario for Manny Pacquaio to win a Hatton fight but not entirely inconceivable. If the marginally possible became the recently occurred, it would be the sort of achievement that could become truly transcendent; this generation’s Henry Armstrong triple-crown.

Crold's virtually always a good read, but when it comes to
estimating Pacquiao's place in boxing history's firmament,
I think he's been utterly faaaaaaar too generous.

                ...and I'm a Pacfan, btw.
