To fight like Tyson you need to be very tough and well conditioned. And people forget that Tyson was clearly past his prime by the age of 25. Fighters burn out much quicker with that style.
Why is their not any boxers who box like Tyson?

This could be true.
To do what he did, it took alot of work even if he was a conditioned athlete.
But, Tyson in his days was magic, don't think we'll ever see something like that ever again.Comment

Sure we will. The same things were said after Dempsey, Frazier, and now of course Tyson. It'll happen, it's inevitable.Comment

David Tua has a style like Tyson, and has been very succesful. Tysons Style thou needs to be done to perfection to win world titles VS big Strong heavys. Because its all about timing, jabbing, and getting inside efficently to land the big blows/hooks.Comment

There's one thing I haven't seen focused on in this thread. Tyson's peek-a-boo, bob and weave, high pressure style was so effective because of him. There's no magic in his style. Mike was born with the tools (physical strength, power and speed) and the talent (the natural ability to use the tools effectively). All those raw materials were brought together by his trainers and his own hard work. It just so happened that his style was suited to his particular abilities and physical stature. He would not have had success as a stand-up boxer, for instance. It didn't hurt that Cus D'Amato, his trainer, already had success teaching Floyd Patterson (in his time, youngest heavyweight champ) the peek-a-boo.
As was pointed out before, the classic stand-up boxing style is the antidote to Mike Tyson's fighting style. But, that's assuming that both fighters have equal ability/talent. Tyson's boxing gifts were best suited to the style we associate with him today. Not everyone (not even close) can execute what he did, even if they copy his motions perfectly.Comment
