Perhaps he just didn't think there were any mega-fights available to him to make mega-millions off of.

calzaghe is also undefeated so mayweather has nothing to brag about
the difference is calzaghe did not retire for so long
mayweather was undefeated because no one could fight him since he was retired for most of that time rotfl

So he wouldn't have to fight Margarito or Cotto.

That was the time when the WW was hot as fire.. cotto, margacheato we're both powerhouses, mosley was rebuilding.. Now those 3 have fought each other and has pretty much destroyed each other(cotto and margacheato are done) here comes mayweather..!!!

he did not relly retire. he just fake it to hidefrom true welterweights. and then at the same time, he did practice at the gym for fights against lighter boxers

Lack of an exciting challenge, probably. He needed a super fight and there wasn't one out there. Cotto wasn't yet a huge draw, Margarito has never been particularly popular, Mosley had been struggling after 2 defeats to Forrest and a loss to Cotto - he didn't have a Pacquiao, a p4p star, to give him that hunger to continue to stake his claim as the p4p best.

People forget that boxing isn't just about the fights. It's a tough lifestyle that requires discipline and dedication to remain at the top. Of all the accusations you can level at PBF, ******ity is not one of them and he knows that he needs to be in top condition to remain the p4p best. You need drive, passion, a fire in your belly to get out there and run mile after mile, day after day, to keep going in the gym when you are in pain, to say no to nice looking but unhealthy food & drink, to trim your social life and spend time away from your family and friends.

I think he was lacking motivation. Hatton was a bit of a super fight, coming in unbeaten, hailed as the best light welter stepping up to take on PBF. He'd had a super fight with De La Hoya before that. How do you train just as hard when you are fighting a mexican that has been beaten 5 times? Or wait for Cotto to become a mega star instead of just a respected unbeaten fresh champion?

I don't even understand why he said that he retired. I would accepted it if he just said that he would take a long needed break from boxing. Then all this coming back from retirement **** wouldn't be used by the *******s.
