Boxers, Promoters, and bodies are all out of wack when it came to pay days. The sport is where it's at because it burned its bridges due to greed.
The sport is on the cusp of the most anticipated sporting event of 2010. Sponsors are clamoring to be attached to the fight. Big time players like Jerry Jones and James Carville are involved with the bidding for this event. Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon are talking on PTI about Mayweather and Pacquiao like they're Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Burning bridges? It seems to me like Mayweather-Pacquiao is BUILDING bridges.

Because it's not mainstream. Everybody can watch pro football at least one game or two in their area because of major corporate sponsorship and the backing of the networks because it's a cash cow.

Boxing can't bring in that kind of dough. They had to resort to ppv 30 something years ago to make events successful.

      It's not gonna change, unfortunately.

Hell even ESPN who paid fighters cheaply cut their budget big in the last few years.

It's one fight, brah. If Mayweather and Pacquaio were to retire who would attract the attention of any of the major networks. Only reason why these guys are huge is because they beat DLH. DLH was popular because the AM's were big but that no longer exists anymore. If Manny and Floyd don't lose to an upcoming star it will be a long time till we see anything big from the sport. That's why I say put this in the biggest stadium, put the best fighters on this card, and get the exposure the sport is dying to get. Once again, they won't because of greed. Rather line their pockets today and forget about tomorrow.

When Marciano retired, people said "What the hell will happen to the sport?" Then along came Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali.

When Ali retired, people said "What the hell will happen to the sport?" Then along came Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson.

When Ray retired and Tyson became a joke, people said "What the hell will happen to the sport?" Then along came Oscar De La Hoya.

When Oscar became a promoter, people said "What the hell will happen to the sport?" Then along came Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

You can trace the history of the sport and see places where people wondered what was going to happen to boxing when a big star retired.

Do you honestly think that if it isn't held at Cowboys Stadium, that people will suddenly stop caring about the fight? Please. This fight is getting enormous attention no matter where it is held. It could be held in Bob Arum's luxury suite at the MGM Grand and it would still command massive media attention.

I agree that this is a great opportunity to showcase the sport by putting together a terrific undercard and I hope it happens.
