What kind of moron thinks DLH beat Hopkins? Hopkins won by KO, and was winning the fight when it was stopped. Sturm hs nothing to offer Hopkins. He is not bigger, stronger or faster, and Hopkins' jab is just as good. DLH at best deserved a draw with Sturm but most likely a 7-5 loss.
Styles do make fights and Sturm's style is too predictable for Hopkins. Roy was very unorthodox and unpredictable and still Hops was competitive with him. Sturm only wins if Hopkins becomes old. I think Taylor would have a real short but Hopkins appears to be cancelling that fight, and if he does, he is a *****.
Hmm, dont know any morons, I just read from time to time that some thought he did win. I personally didnt see that fight , was just a bit before my time!
I would love to see him in against Taylor, and canceling the fight would be a ***** thing to do..
Floyd Mayweather has picked the easiest of the light-welterweights, will win that fight by running for 12 rounds, and then I guess - will move up to welterweight successfully avoiding all the 140lb dangermen like Tszyu/Cotto/Hatton/Harris/Witter etc...
I don't know where you get your info, but you are completely wrong. Floyd's first fight at 140 was supposed to be against Spadafora, but Spaddy legal troubles stopped that, so he fought Corley instead, which was a good test for him considering he just moved up from 135. During that time, Cotto and Witter weren't even heard of, Tszyu was injured , Warren wanted no part of Floyd at that time(with good reason), Harris had already fought Urkal the month before. After Corley he called out Gatti, but Gatti fought Dorin. Floyd's second fight at 140 was supposed to be against Lejia, but HBO said he was too old. So, he fought a lesser fighter as a tune-up for Gatti.
Cong**** on the 6,000, Tracy.
Anyway, I can't really think of anyone Bernard Hopkins and Floyd Mayweather Jr. ducked (who they didn't beat up already..)
Just like someone said before, Erik Morales makes exciting fights, but Hopkins and Mayweather just dismantle opponents. They make fights look easy whether it's top contenders or not. I know there are alot of people who would love to see Erik Morales at #1, but the way these guy do what they do simply overshadows Morales' "exciting" performances.
That's how I see it atleast..

Thanks Jack...I hadnt even noticed that til you mentioned it!
Both sides make very valid points but there are too many questionable comments that over-shadow that.
Iwatchboxing, Did you really say something about Daniel Seda passing Erik Morales in popularity or p4p? And Juan Manuel Who?
No, you don't watch boxing.
All favoritism aside...
Mayweather, I've said before I'm waiting for Floyd to get back to his old self. The one that was taking on top-level competition just about every fight. But in boxing, unfortunetly things tend to lean toward, "what have you done for me lately?" Which in my opinion is okay. And lately Floyd doesn't think he has to do much. His last fight was against Henry Bruseles, a guy that guy knocked out on Telefutura! Don't say that Floyd took a tune-up for Gatti because his last 4 or so fights were tune-ups. Sosa, N'dou, Corley, Bruseles. These guys shouldn't be fighting the Pound for Pound King at all, let alone all in a row. Floyd needs to stop smacking his gums about 147 and start cleaning out 140. But Floyd doesn't really care about what you or I think and rightfully so.
Hopkins, the fact that he's had 20 straight title defenses is an amazing feat. The fact that the guy is barely losing rounds is even more amazing. Bernard's knock is going to be his competition. His two biggest wins were against smaller guys but that's not telling you anything you don't already know. But my problem with B-Hop is his tendecy to open his mouth up about fighting somebody everybody knows he has no intentions on fighting. Calazghe(even though he would've made short work of him), Tarver, Jones, etc, etc. He prices himself out of fights, has to control all of the stipulations, and weasels around any situations that he feel could be too risky. Except for the Trinidad fight because he didn't have a choice.
Now Hop has a real problem, and I don't care who disagrees, because Bernard is STARTING to show his age as of last fight. Eastman caught him with shots that I'd never seen him get hit with. But all the while I pulled for B-Hop because I didn't want Howard Eastman to be the first one to knock him off in 12 years.
Through it all Hopkins has only commitment to himself because it's his career. If he doesn't want to take any risks or challenges than he doesn't have to. I just wish he'd stop talking about them then.
I just hope that Floyd doesn't jump from 140lb too 147lb without fighting the top guy's. I reckon he's the most technically sound fighter out there P4P, but I still think he should forget fighting De La Hoya/Mosley @147lb and move back down to 135lb where he belongs!
He could dominate and hold that division to ransom for years!... But I think he's messing with the big boy's at 140lb/147lb and he doesn't need too!
The truth is... I'm frustrated with the fact that everyone say's, "Bernard is soooo great", "he's amazing!!" etc... It's all crap in my eyes... If he beat Calzaghe the I would say, "fair play, the guy's good"... But I hate the fact that he keeps shouting!... "They all eat like models because they're afraid to come up and face a REAL middleweight!"...
Interesting as it is... I'd LOVE to see how Mayweather show's his evasive tactics against a fully loaded light-welterweight like Cotto/Tszyu/Hatton ...

Points taken.
But beating Joe Calazghe wouldn't make Bernard Hopkins any more of a champ in my eyes. The man is the MIDDLEWEIGHT KING, that's undeniable. It's the Pound 4 Pound part you have to question. Because he's never gave up pounds to anyone and won the fight. That's what determines a true P4P champ. Moving up, fighting, and winning other weight classes. Bernard is the anti-Pound 4 Pound. And whatever works for him.
Joe Calazghe needs to realize that top american superstars don't need to go across the Atlantic ocean to fight him. (i.e. Hopkins and Jones, at the time) If Calazghe was so interested in fighting the best he would have been on the first plane over. But Calazghe can sell out arenas over there fighting nobody. Like I said, whatever works for him.
P.S. Tell Joe to stay away from Jeff Lacy. Or it's going to be Trou-ble, Trou-ble.
How comes all the so called "P4P" best fighters in the World duck, pick, and choose so cautiously these days?
Bernard Hopkins... He's ducked, complained about money, and decided to fight Robert Allen over and over instead of chassing greatness.

OMG Yes! This is exactly how I feel. I cant stand so-called 'champions' that do not actively defend their title against the number #1 contenders. Your statement about PBF is correct - everyoneloves him and his speed, his defense, oh how good is this guy etc etc but where are the big fights in the last year? At 140 there is so many talents and yet you fight bums. This makes you a bum IMO.
B. Hop is even worse. I really hope #1 contender Sam Soliman gets his shot at this guy - in a recent interview he stated that Hopkins only wants easy meat and not a real challenge - but he's going to get one in Sam Soliman if he stops hiding. I really hope this fight happens - I saw SS spar with Tszyu and think he has what it takes to own the aging Bernard.
Bottom Line - you say your a champ, act like one. Only take on the best and you will be respected and never forgotten ala Morales.

I agree, he is great, at DEFENSE. He is a defensive master, and as much as I love watching a great technician, defense is not all there is to it. So much of his style is sticking and moving, but sometimes really comes across as pure 'running', when naturally alot of us would love JUST ONCE to see him stop and go toe to toe with someone. He just shouldnt complain about lack of fans when he does very, very little to entice anyone with a pulse.

I kind of agree, he definately use to move more than he needed to back in the day, and he did look like a runner compared to how he fights now. If you take a look at his recent fights, he stands in front of his opponent and trades, while still being elusive. He replaced all that movement and running with ducking, blocking, parrying, and rolling lots of hard shots. It makes sense, because in order for him to keep some of these big guys off of him, he's going to have to stand on his punches. I know there can be an argument saying that he only use that "in the pocket" style against lower level fighters, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
