Look, I think Hopkins is ducking Dawson too and I'm becoming less and less of a fan of his as the days go on. But why does Dawson's career revolve around what Bernard Hopkins does?

Don't you want to see who's the best at the weight?? Isn't that part of what boxing is about?? Best fighting the best?

Chad Dawson needs to prove himself.

starting with pascal and then the real deal in cloud.

If he fights Hopkins, it would be #1 vs #2. Why would he need to fight someone lower?? Who does Hopkins have to fight that isn't lower like Bute??

Pascal and Cloud would be more impressive in my eyes.

if he beats Hopkins he will get discredited for it due to the age Hopkins is.

If the fight goes ahead then Dawson is lose - lose situation. He wins people play the age card. He loses and will look bad on him.

I know there is more money and Hopkins is the biggest name out there so maybe he will push the fight based on that alone.

I can't see Hopkins being willing to take this fight. He doesn't have many left in him now and I guess it would be good to sign off with a win.

Was Lewis in 1996 when he fought once?

My point is, Lewis definitely had stretches of inactivity.

He went 9 months from Mercer to McCall so it's happened more than once.

Lewis wasn't a terribly active champ.

The fresh direction of this thread is based on Dawson's willingness to sit out a whole eight months if he doesn't get a shot at Hopkins or Pascal. He's not getting paid to do absolutely nothing. So why doesn't he fight Cloud since Cloud is calling him out? I mean, I want to see a Hopkins fight also. But Cloud is a no brainer as far as the next best thing where division clarity is concerned. It would probably be more exciting than a Dawson-Hopkins fight too.

The thing that is getting on my nerves about Hopkins isn't even so much that he doesn't want to fight Dawson. It seems like he doesn't want to fight anybody dangerous period. What's this bull**** about HBO turning down an Adamek-Hopkins fight and accepting a Hopkins-Danny Green fight? I mean, regardless of whether anybody thinks Adamek is kind of tailor made for Bernard's style, he is ten times the opponent that Danny Green is.

I also think Bute would be a dangerous fight for Hopkins since he's a quick handed Southpaw. But there again, the only way Hopkins gets credit from me for that win is if he goes down to 168 to fight him for his title. But I doubt he does that.
