Roy Jones Jr. The ducks he made at supermiddleweight.

Outside of them there was really nothing though. The challengers they defended their titles against were dreadful.
Jones's first fight at SMW was actually against Thulani Malinga, a very credible opponent who had close fights with Benn and Eubank.
He had also won a minor SMW title previously but Malinga was his first legit opponent at the weight.Comment

No. Jones was practically a SMW since late 1992.right, so jones first fight at supermiddleweight was against james toney(at the end of 1994)
you could make the same argument as to why jones did'nt fight eubank and benn as to why james toney did'nt fight the two
now 1995(as the last year joens was at supermiddle)
''Two 168 belt-holders, Steve Collins and Frankie Liles, have rejected big money offers to fight Roy Jones- Larry Merchant announces'' -- And that's why roy jones then moved up in weight
also eubank openely said he was afraid of roy jones and did'nt want to fight him
All I'm saying is that he didn't fight them and several of those fights was there to be made.Comment

It's not about kicking a guy while he's down, It's to prove that Jones did have the opportunity to fight better comp and chose not to, and to prove once again that the myth of Jones being a top 10 ATG is just that; a myth. Jones was a talented guy, but he chose to play it safe for the most part, that is the point behind this.Comment

I asked former HBO Sports president Seth Abraham for his thoughts on this enigma wrapped in a riddle.
“His drive was to do things that were of interest to him, but not necessarily to fight the very best middleweights, super middleweights and light heavyweights who were out there,” Abraham responded. “I think Roy’s legacy in the sport absolutely will suffer because he chose not to do everything he could to make himself as great as he might have been.”

A lot of those guys ducked Jones and were even quoted as such. Jones fought Toney FFS, so why would he duck any of the other guys if he fought the best out of the bunch? use logic for a second plz. Benn was quoted as saying he didn't want to fight Jones in his prime and Calzaghe the same.So the deserving fighters Jones didn't fight (or ducked as it's called on NSB) is these guys:
Nunn
Benn
Eubank
Collins
Barkley
Cordoba
Littles
Van Horn
Liles
Nardiello
Close
Rocchigianni
Nicotra
Let's face it. A Nunn or a Benn or a Eubank or a Liles or even a Collins would have been real nice.
(I hope I didn't miss anyone

Two things that can be argued about the list is that its the annual ratings, things happen in between the year guys move in and out. Second, we dont know what type offers were made with those fighters, Roy could have wanted percentages they were not willing to give up and Roy wasnt about to fight overseas at that time either.Comment

Do you not think that - regardless of position, who was the "best", etc - that James Toney is stylistically one of the easiest match-ups for Roy out of the names mentioned?A lot of those guys ducked Jones and were even quoted as such.
