Ummm... he hit him right in the ear and knocked his equilibrium to hell. That's why his legs went to **** and he couldn't get his balance set or throw any punches. It had nothing to do with a concussive blow that rung his bell so you can forget that "he was hit in the back of the head" nonsense.

Roy's lightning reflexes that kept him from getting hit for years and years have slowed just enough so these guys are catching him. You see in so many fighters around 35 or so they slow a bit. With some it doesn't matter - speed was never their deal, with Jones it was everything. Thanks what made it so incredible to watch.
I think a lot of the haters are folks who never saw the Jones of the late 80's or 90's. Either that or they just don't like him. Sometimes a fighter rubs me the wrong way and I have a time of it seeing his good qualities (Lewis was like that for me).
I think Roy really was a once in a decade fighter. He is well past his best. I have seen post on here today claiming he was never any good, he ducked everyone, Tarver and Johnson beat a prime Jones... I don't agree with that, but he has been on slump and should call it a career.
It is up to him, but I have followed the guy since the 88 Games. A guy from my home town (Tod Foster) was fighting in those games too. Roy is not his old self. He will continue to get caught if he continues fight - can he put it together and look good? sure -look at the Lacy fight. He looked great, but those reflexes that caused him to miss that same punch Green landed by a whisker a decade ago - are not there. I would have loved to see him get a cruzer belt. He should have done it ten years ago though, well maybe seven.
Good luck Roy. You have inspired many of us. I think you can continue to be good for the sport, but I think it is time to go and visit Gerald, see how he is doing. Spend time with your boys. Enjoy fishing. Shoot Champ, you ever get to Montana look me up and i will take you out to some really good fishing holes. We can talk about Paz and Ruiz, and the old times that will not be forgotten.Comment

Ring Dem Bells [name of a swing tune]
People are just making decisions and giving advice based on the RESULT and nothing else.
Base it on what he looked like for the first 2 minutes, how and where he got hit, and whether the fight wass stopped too early. Someone wrote in that it was a rabbit punch, another that it got him on the ear.
WWEEEEELLLLLllll.........I know all about that......As an amateur, many years ago, in actually my penultimate fight, [for which I hadn't trained at all], I was hit on the ear. I could hardly believe that I'd been knocked down [for the very first time ever], although I rolled and got on my feet with the same movement for no count. However, I'd have been much better off to have taken a knee, because I actually heard BELLS ringing, and he hit me pretty well; until I was able to clinch.
I'd had no experience at all as to what to do if KD'd......Naturally I lost the fight.
In those days, there were no head guards used in a fight, they were kept for the gym, but rarely used. I never used one. So, in a way, we were like 4th grade pros, but for only 3,4, or 6x2 min. rounds....depending.
In 62 fights 59-3 record, this was the first and last time I was down, and it happened.
So I always have a "soft" spot for guys who've been hit on the ear and hear bells. The bells I heard, were very tuneful, really sweet sounding.........Comment

Jones-Green
Just had a look at Youtube, in fact 2 looks. When the fight was stopped, Jones seemed O.K. Green landing only a couple of rare body blows, whilst punching away at Jones's gloves. Green grabbed the back of Jones's neck with his right hand and pulled him into a more "hittable" position.
The punch which sent him down was around the back of his neck.Comment

roy was not hit behind the ear... it was a clear to see roy was hit in the back of the head... watch the replay again... and for your info timothy you are a spectator.. as a actual boxer behind the ear is still considered a rabbid punch... and is borderline. roy was hit directly behind the head and you can see that because he ducked the punch and turned away. and he was still able to survive the round he wasnt being hit with effective or damaging punchesComment

Regardless of this loss whih is a controversial stoppage.. Roy will always have drawing power because he is still an exciting fighter and fans like me still want to see roy and b-hop mix it up before they both bow out... Its still gone be a big fight.. But roy will need another tune-up so he can show off his skills and restore credit.. I honeslty think he should rematch danny greenComment

I saw the highlight clip on ESPN. The shot that did the damage looked like nothing. It was a fingertip shot that grazed him on the side of the head. Totally not a legit knockout punch. The only explanation I have is that it landed right on the temple, which would cause more damage than a normal punch. The stoppage was questionable, but Jones was on very shaky legs and should have held on to Green.
That said, it's time for Jones to go. I just don't get how he can go from looking so invigorated against Lacy to this in just a few months. Lacy landed some nice shots. Jones just laughed it off. I know Lacy is a can, but Green is not that much better.Comment
