Holly ****! I didn't expect him to get KTFO by Green. So much for the Hopkins rematch.

He should have called it quits after the win over Lacy. That's the way Roy should be remembered.

I personally thought he should have retired after the calzaghe fight, they both disgraced the sport that night. That fight was the closest thing i have seen to the WWE in boxing. Besides the first knockdown, they clowned around for the majority of the fight, it really disgusted me. On another note, it looks like Hopkins' 3 fight plan just got cut to a 2 fight plan. I wonder if he will find a solid replacement and who it might be ??

just don't mull it, do it. he can't compete at the elite level anymore... he can't even compete at the B-level. Just quit boxing and raise chickens.

Damn its such a shame to see such a legend go out like this...he got knocked out by Tarver and Johnson then clowned on by Calzaghe...had a fun performance against Lacy then KO'd again by Green

Ideally he would have still been a good level fighter and gone out with a good match with Hopkins, but Hopkins would always have been too much for current Roy. I'm sure Bernard is pissed he'll never have gotten revenge over Roy years ago.

All in all though everyone knows the true Roy Jones and this doesn't tarnish his legacy for me....he'll always be Roy Jones Jr of the 90s

He's best to go ahead and retire. If he takes a fight against a lacy-type fighter, he'll catch himself thinking he's still got something that's no longer there... Again. And he'll get embarrassed... Again.

                Remember the good ole days.

Roy's lightning reflexes that kept him from getting hit for years and years have slowed just enough so these guys are catching him. You see in so many fighters around 35 or so they slow a bit. With some it doesn't matter - speed was never their deal, with Jones it was everything. Thanks what made it so incredible to watch.
I think a lot of the haters are folks who never saw the Jones of the late 80's or 90's. Either that or they just don't like him. Sometimes a fighter rubs me the wrong way and I have a time of it seeing his good qualities (Lewis was like that for me).
I think Roy really was a once in a decade fighter. He is well past his best. I have seen post on here today claiming he was never any good, he ducked everyone, Tarver and Johnson beat a prime Jones... I don't agree with that, but he has been on slump and should call it a career.
It is up to him, but I have followed the guy since the 88 Games. A guy from my home town (Tod Foster) was fighting in those games too. Roy is not his old self. He will continue to get caught if he continues fight - can he put it together and look good? sure -look at the Lacy fight. He looked great, but those reflexes that caused him to miss that same punch Green landed by a whisker a decade ago - are not there. I would have loved to see him get a cruzer belt. He should have done it ten years ago though, well maybe seven.
Good luck Roy. You have inspired many of us. I think you can continue to be good for the sport, but I think it is time to go and visit Gerald, see how he is doing. Spend time with your boys. Enjoy fishing. Shoot Champ, you ever get to Montana look me up and i will take you out to some really good fishing holes. We can talk about Paz and Ruiz, and the old times that will not be forgotten.

                    Motherf*****.

That's all I can see, sad to see Roy go out like this, but we've all known he should have retired a while ago.

All those times Roy played to the crowd with his showboating. That's probably part of the reason he hasn't retired since he obviously loves the roar of the crowd. He can still get the love of the fans with promoting and broadcasting.

But, man, any boxer in his 40s still fighting has to know they're way beyond the limit of reality. Not everybody can be B-Hop.
