Floyd avoided Cotto because he saw JMM as the much easier opponent. A lightweight who happened to have called him out and Floyd came running. He also happened to be the P4P#2, and was coming off battles and tough wins against an old casamyor and J Diaz. Floyd knew it was be easy pickens.

With defeating JMM, he can also claim to beat the #2 P4P. To solidify the win, he cheated an already fat and uncomfortable weighted JMM on the scales. Fight night was much worse as the bigger Floyd used his weight and bullied around, potshotted, and sometimes ran against an already bloated and gassed JMM.


So there you have it, even Cotto was a much riskier and dangerous opponent, and a legitimate welterweight. Floyd took the easy way out.
