They can praise God if they like, but some of us have a First ********* right to say it rubs us the wrong way. Even if I were a believer, I think it would bother me, because it implies that God had it in for the opponent, that He wanted him to lose. I mean the other guy could be a hard-training boxer who wanted to do right by his kids and so forth.

I think you're overthinking it. Its become common in our culture for believers to praise a God if they accomplish something. You can say it rubs you the wrong way all you want, as you have that right also, but that still doesnt stop them from saying what they want.

I think when they praise God, they do it becasue they belive a God gave them strength, not that God favors them.

"I want to thank the Lord for this victory" means the Lord provided the other guy with a defeat.

I realize it's common in our culture and will continue to be, but I think that point is neither here nor there. There are things about this culture I like and other things I could do without.

I'd love to see a boxer thank the devil for his win............that would get some complaints!

How about Qui Gon, for his wise but unorthodox guidance?

I think they should leave it out of the ring, but I'm not about to ask for it to be banned or anything. It's up to them and should be up to them, just saying it's annoying and disrespectful to the real people who helped you get into that position, such as your trainer and family.

Of course Pacquiao is probably the most prominent boxer now who regularly refers to a god, again conditioned under the Christian religion.

With many religious precepts now debunked by science, more and more people are beginning to realize that all religions are likely to be purely superstition, with no real evidence to support them other than a collection of far-fetched stories which compare quite readily to any other work of fiction.

Is it time that boxers leave religion out of the ring for good?

Interesting interview on the "god delusion" psychological condition:

physically gifted mentally ******ed, that is all to that.
