If it gets them up in the morning and if it gives them faith that they will be alright I think it's good.

Well, if you had ever read the bible you would no that the Christian religion is not contradicted by the existence of evil in the world. And I'm sure that is the case with some other religions too. Evil and suffering do not disprove god's existence - not to the modestly intelligent at least. Perhaps you should try thinking a bit beyond your current viewpoint and properly educate yourself.

If God is indeed thee supreme being,

why should he only get the praise but not the blame?

Don't worry, I don't expect an answer to this question either.

To an atheist, believing in any religion, is the same thing as believing in, for example, Harry Potter, The Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, Humpty Dumpty, Superman, Lord of The Rings or any other work of fiction.

There's no difference with religious doctrines, they just present themselves in a certain way. I guess the most accurate modern-day equivalent could be The Blair Witch Project because it was marketed as some sort of true story to begin with, but later revealed it was purely fictional. Religions are basically the same thing, only difference is that a number of people still believe the hype around the story, and that's usually a result of childhood indoctrination.

i do not ask god and pray for victory though. because i think if i am asking god for victory it is same thing as asking god to make sure my opponent loses and god does not operate that way. i ask god for guidance and protection. i ask him to look over me as i compete and to continue to give me the chance to tell anyone who will listen how great my god is.

No offense intended but the way I see it is that a god is just a fictional character from some primitive man's imagination. Check out the books "The God Part of The Brain" by Matthew Alper, and "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. Back in the day, Zeus, was talked about in much the same way that you talk about your god. But nowadays, most people would laugh if Zeus was spoken of in the same way you speak about your god. The only reason for that is that the Abrahamic religions have been literally forced upon us for the past 2000 years, many other religions have been systematically silenced.

I think it's only a matter of time before talking about any "god" will illicit the same reaction as talking about "Zeus" or "Thor", because ultimately they are exactly the same thing - fictional characters. Literally thousands of gods have been created throughout human history...

Check out this interesting list of gods and goddesses:

Of course Pacquiao is probably the most prominent boxer now who regularly refers to a god, again conditioned under the Christian religion.

With many religious precepts now debunked by science, more and more people are beginning to realize that all religions are likely to be purely superstition, with no real evidence to support them other than a collection of far-fetched stories which compare quite readily to any other work of fiction.

Is it time that boxers leave religion out of the ring for good?

Interesting interview on the "god delusion" psychological condition:

Unlike these broadcasting pubes...and people mindlessly pecking away at keyboards, fighters need a connection to great inspiration, rather than to sit around and discredit everything. In the ring skepticism does not give power, belief does. People like Pacquiao wouldn't be the same without his mountain of faith to fall back upon. It even ties into his punch resistance, don't you doubt.

Same with other fighters, I just used Pac as an example.

religion is a joke, but it is powerful.

religion got 19 guys to hurl themselves at 400 mph into two buildings made of steel and concrete.

if it helps boxers in the ring, more power to them, why not.

but then again, pac is god, so it's kinda not fair.

Fighters come closer to god in the ring than many atheist keyboard warriors will ever come (until they die or face death, most likely from disease or old age). Funny thing is, when the athiest keyboard warriors face death, most of them will call out for god too.

                      Can you answer the question?

                      Thats all I ask,

                      answer the question.

So far, every single one of you has failed to do so.

Why should God get the praise for the good, but not the blame for the bad?

Its what we ask of all responsible adults, be accountable for your actions whether good or bad.

                      Answer the question.
