McGirt's stock will go down if Taver loses to Glen again. Though at least during the first fight he knew that his man was in trouble. He kept telling Tarver that he needed a knockdown, which might not have necessarily been true if he had just worked a little harder in the later rounds. The thing is, why didn't Tarver listen?
Who is the better trainer? Buddy or Roach?

Personally I think they're both competent but not necessarily head and shoulders above their peers.
For example, I don't think either have "won" a fight for any guy they've trained due to their manipulation.
Well, I do think McGirt worked a little psychobabble on Tarver to change him from the crackhead headed nowhere to the conqueror of RJJ.Comment

Buddy easily, looking at recent fight history, Buddy has had the better resume while Roach's trainees have been lacking and not winning as of late. As far as keeping it together in the corner, Nacho Beristain all the way. Roach handled that cut from Manny as about the worst possible way you could. McGirt actually keeps his cool also in the corner when his fighters are cut, he more or less is more worried about their safety if they can continue or not rather than freak out and think that the fight is lost.Comment

What about Emmanuael Steward? He's been in the game longer than both but I'd give the nod to McGirt just because I think he gives better advice between rounds than Roach. Also McGirt seems more likely to change his fighters for the better. I can't really say what Roach even does with his fighters.Comment

2) Roy Jr. was older, slower, and sustained a significant loss of muscle mass. McGirt is no genius when it comes to beating Roy. Roy in his prime beats Tarver every time, and even a weight-drained Roy holds a W over Tarver (and yes it was a legit win, close, but legit).
3) Montell was getting KO'd by Jones in the remacth regardless of who was in his corner.
Some of you are giving too much credit to the trainer and not enough to the fighter and the circumstances. Roach and McGirt are good trainers, but all trainers are limited to some degree by their fighters and who their fighters are facing. If Gatti beats Mayweather then we can call McGirt a genius for real.Comment
