Boxing is so dead

How do you go from Joe Kapp, to Tom Flores, to Tapatio?
And what do you have against El Pato and Cholula???
Hmmm???Comment

I can't recall a single street fight started by someone shooting the legs, or throwing a kick.
I can't recall a single street fight that ended with someone winning by submission.
Its just basic human instinct to defend yourself with your hands first and foremost.
Boxing has a huge advantage in that regard imo.
Hell, I was in a fight and the first thing I threw was a front-kick to the kid's mid-section and back and down he went. I know kids that took Kick-boxing/Martial Arts...always had the advantage against regular kids that just fought tough. But I do prefer to punch.
Another kid I knew in H.S. was a wrestler...took down a kid quickly then pounded him. The only thing that would have stopped him would be if he knew the kid could kick...but he knew he wasn't that type of fighter.
there is a big advantage to being taught how to fight when going up against someone that doesn't.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 11-25-2009, 02:36 AM.Comment

I'm so tired of this argument from MMA fans that it's better than boxing because it's more like a street fight. So what if it is; that really has no bearing on why fight fans love boxing so much. Most fans love the technical aspect of boxing, the precision, the athleticism of a boxer and the sheer notion that hands are the only physical weapon you are able to make use of in the fight. This argument of it being more like a street fight is also invalid due to that fact that just like boxing, MMA has rules. No eye gouging, no hitting below the belt, no head-butts, no rabbit punches, etc, etc. These are all the first thing that a boxer or a mixed martial artist, or anyone who knows how to defend themselves for that matter, would do if they were in a life or death situation on the street; I know I would. Therefore this argument of it being just like a street fight is nonsense.Comment

I'll break it down.
I started as Pelon Psyclone in honor of one of my favorite MCs ever, Big Duke of the Psycho Realm.
Changed to Pancho Gonzalez in honor of an underrated tennis legend who has never really gotten his just due by the media, but received his respects from the sports biggest names, ever.
Came out with El Gallo Negro because he was, "The Black Rooster, 13 KOs". Funny movie with a fitting character for a boxing website.
Switched over to Joe Kapp "The Toughest Chicano" to honor the first minority quarter back to take his team to the SuperBowl.
Busted out with the Tom Flores to honor the man as one of only two players to win a SuperBowl ring as a player, assistant and head coach, all while being left out of the HOF.
Now, I'm Tapatio to salute my favorite Mexican food hot sauce.
Nothing against the other two, I just like Tapatio more.
But, Tabasco>>>>all.
I like to honor my Mexican and Chicano roots and shine light on those who have been overlooked in the world of sports and entertainment.Comment

Then you need to see more street-fights with people that can actually fight.

Thats fine and all,
but in most cases,
people throw hands.
Thats just the way it is.Comment

It's ****** for anyone to bash MMA because boxing before the implementation of queensbury rules essentially was MMA.
Alot of idiots these days like to bash MMA because of their sloppy technique and the way they keep their hands low completely ignoring the origins of boxing.
John L Sullivan is considered the last great bare knuckle champion. He didnt fare too well once they implemented gloves and the queensbury rules which gave a 60second break everytime one competitor was knocked down and got back up.
Before that boxing essentially was MMA in that it was a free for all. That funny stance he is famous for actually served a purpose. It served to keep distance in the event an opponent tried to tackle him because it was pretty common then for boxers to tackle their opponent and kick their downed opponent's shins until they break and are unable to continue.Comment

All while remembering that a fight starts as soon as you feel threatened which means, once he gets into striking distance...strike quickly and forcefully in a vital area which can come from a kick and a front kick is seriously effective to the mid-section or even chin depending on how tall the person is...as well as a shot to the knee or groin.
A good shot that can protect your hands is to the body as well as to the chest where the heart is. If you hit the spot where the heart is, that will weaken him for a moment where he will not have any force...then you have many options.
Of course that's all after you are supposed to talk your way out of it which should be even though when you are young that doesn't tend to cross your mind. I notice I think smart now compared to when I was young.
With MMA places on the rise, don't be surprised if more kids search out those schools to learn how to fight...which includes the bad kids/gang members.
I'm thinking of getting back into myself. Been a while. Just for self-defense purposes and to keep busy.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 11-25-2009, 02:52 AM.Comment

No prob. I'm a fan of both sports and as a martial artist myself is my duty to know the history of both sports.

Well, I hope I didn't offend you any as my intents and purposes were not meant to bash MMA so to speak, only to show that boxing has never gone anywhere, and imo, never will. I've got to deal with some younger cousins all the time who are constantly trying to throw **** in my face about MMA.
The fact that they're talking about erecting an entirely new building for this fight to me at least, is incredible and got me really excited.
But yea, I tripped out when I first learned that very early boxing was basically MMA.Comment
