I'm glad it has not always been this way, otherwise we would have written off Pacquiao, Hopkins, Robinson, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, etc. long before they became names.

Whether Kessler can overcome his loss time will tell. What if taylor gets it together and knocks out Ward next fight? Is Taylor still written off or is he rejuvinated. Is Ward then to be tossed into the trash? It is all so silly.

I for one like Taylor and Kessler and will continue to watch them fight. If they can get back their form all the better, but it is not the end of the world if they do not. They both already had great careers so this is all just gravy for them.

I'm sick of the race for ATG and P4P ****. I believe this is the virus that is ruining the sport as much as 400 available belts. People act like that is all that matters. What truly matters is the stories, the hardship, dedication and willingness to give it your all.

Wait for a fighter to retire and then we can rank him all time. it is not all about what they achieve, but also about what they give.

I couldn't have put it better. You got to the heart of the matter dean.

I have boxed before and yes the headbutts had an effect on the second part of the fight, but up to that point Kessler was clearly loosing every round and it looked as it was going to stay that way until the 12th.

All the headbuts did was help stop the fight pre-maturely. I garantee you even if the headbutts didn't occurr Kessler was going to loose every round of the fight....WHich would have been more embarrassing than being stopped for cuts

Now to think of it, he's lucky that he was stopped due to the cuts and not loosing every round like a bum. At least he has an excuse for loosing now

I'm not writing him off, he'll still be competitive. He's just going to have a tough time with fighters like Ward and Dirrell.

I think the most worrying aspect of Saturday, and ever since Calzaghe, was that Kessler never changed his style. Granted he had promotional trouble, but I'm not talking about a complete over haul, but rather, adding in some more head movement or upper body movement and other elements to it.

I'm not saying that it would have won him the fight, but I don't think it would've hurt.

It took a real fighter to show us who Kessler really was. Fighter's like Mundine and the rest of the cab-drivers he fought are the reason Kessler was so over-hyped till this day. Ofcourse the Calzaghe fight and the fact that he was white has something to do with it as well, but Calzaghe is an overrated fighter himself
I disagree. Calzaghe is an underrated fighter, in my opinion. Whether you liked his style or not, it worked well for him.

Kessler almost reached the top of the pile. Who knows what might have happened had it not been for slimeball Palle wrecking his career? Since the Calzaghe fight two years ago, he should have had at least four or five fights against top class opponents. Since he couldn't get those, he had 3 fights against less-than-stellar opposition (to put it mildy), and has not progressed, only regressed, because he wasn't able to test himself. I don't see how it's possible to bounce back from his first professional loss when taking on such meaningless fights, but this is not his fault, hence the reason he took Palle to court and got out of his contract.

It's not black and white. It's not clear cut. It's not (*assumes caveman voice) "duh... he is an overrated Euro-bum... duh". You have to consider what's happened over the last two years.

People are remarkably short-sighted if they can't see the guy actually has skills, but it's a shame those skills have slipped.

Kessler is only 30, but he is an old 30 year-old. Not what he was in 2007 when he faced Calzaghe as a 39-0 double world champion. Calzaghe would have not lost a single round to this version of Kessler either, and I would guess he would have beaten him cleanly without headbutts, too.

I think he makes the second round.. No way he beat Ward at any point in his career. So ya I write him off as the champ of the super six.

Yeah with his line of thinking, lets say Manny and Floyd fought. the winner then gets it all taken away down the road when the guy he beat loses to someone else.

Fighters get old, fighters get injured and fighters have bad nights and lose. These kiddies then decide that everything that fighter has earned, gets taken away.

I cannot think of any other sport where an athlete gets written off so quickly after running into a stumbling block. Could you imagine if team sports went like this? LOL

I always said Kessler was WAY over-rated. He got schooled vs Ward it's gonna be interesting to see how he fights in his nxt fight. Wouldn't say he's done he is just not as good as some thought.
