Was taking 3 more rounds of unneccessary punishment a bad decision from Cotto???

It was a very bad decision. The fight shouldn't of been continued after the 9th round, Cotto wasn't throwing and was eating alot of leather, his face was badly ****ed at that stage.

In reality though, It shouldn't of been Cotto's decision, it should of been Santiago's. He is supposed to protect his fighter and last saturday he didn't do his job.

Everyone has to give Cotto props for wanting to continue, he proved he isn't a quitter.

Why even vote on this mess? And how could anyone not vote yes after the fight was stopped late and he didn't finish it? It's obvious he wasn't gona win and now we know he got stopped, so it just doesn't make sense to let Pac whip his ass for a few more rounds.

Cotto caught 276 power punches from PAC while De La Hoya much less in 195 because he quit early. Miguel really should have called it a night in the 8th or 9th. I dunno maybe the extra 3 rounds of punishment may have took some more years left in his boxing career...

It's not worth trading a healthy life for any amount of pride. Cotto has a wife and kids to consider. They don't want to see him end up in a wheelchair. When your own wife walks out of the arena, you should definitely think about calling the fight off.

Some sources said he wanted to quit in the 11th. Boxrec, for example.

• Pacquiao dropped Cotto with a right hand early in the third round.
• Cotto down again in round 4, this time from a big left hand as he was advancing forward .
• The referee stops the fight with 2:05 left in round 12 as he is of the view Cotto is no longer fighting back while getting hit on the ropes
• With this win, Pacquiao wins a 7th title in a 7th weight class.
• Cotto stated after the bout he told his corner he wanted quit after the end of round 11, but they told him to continue

Personally, I think quitting is wise when you know you can't win. **** being macho.

Santiago really should have pulled him out. I can't remember which prominent boxing figure it was stated that Santiago was chosen as the trainer because he wouldn't overrule Cotto, but that's basically true. Miguel didn't want to quit, and Santiago didn't have the authority to push to stop it. I know there's this pride thing about finishing the fight but in actuality, it's kind of dumb, a hollow victory, attained at a great, great cost sometimes.

People who defended Miguel quitting against Margarito (I am on one of those people) stated it was wiser to call it a day and live to fight another day.

Well, in the Pacquaio fight, the opposite happened. And maybe those 3 rounds took him from a fighter slightly passing his prime into a shot one.
