I wouldn't say it was a prime Tyson. More like a good version of him but not prime. His prime was done after the Spinks fight, IMO.

That said, I think Jones was the more dominant fighter. He beat Hopkins (while both were still a bit green) and schooled Toney.

How though? He was 37-0 and 23 years old (not 24 actually)...

He had no wars, he had no slugfests... he knocked EVERYONE OUT, and only had 4 decision wins out of 37...

You can't possibly be out of your physical prime at 23 years old.

Age doesn't determine when your prime is. Even though he won against Bruno and Williams in his next two fights, he didn't look as good as he did before. It seemed like he was relying on punching rather than punching/boxing.

So as soon as a fighter doesn't look good he is no longer prime all the sudden?

As soon as he loses he is no longer prime?

I mean come on... I understand age doesn't determine your prime.

Guys can be 30 years old and out of their prime, from being in constant wars and slugfests... and by the time your in your mid 30's your body doesn't react the same.

But 23? No slugfests? No wars? Undefeated? And knocking everyone out... I am sorry, but Mike Tyson was in the prime physical stage of his life when he got knocked out.

Physically (meaning his body), he was in his prime. Fighting-wise, no. Like I said, it's not during the Douglas fight that he became out of prime. It was after the Spinks fight. He seemed to be relying on punching more than anything else. He used to be able to work his defense better and just had overall better body movement.

But I'm not trying to say that I don't give Douglas credit. Douglas, on that night, would've still been a challenge for a prime Tyson. He just beat a good version of Tyson, like Holyfield did.

You don't think that had anything to do with Douglas' unwillingness to lose? His constant jab in Mikes face? His determination, grit, hunger, and motivation to win at absolutely any cost?

                It most certainly did.

Mike Tyson, unbeaten, in no wars... at 23 years old... was absolutely prime when he got knocked out... because he executed a wrong game plan, or didn't use all the tools in his arsenal has nothing to do with it.

Tough decision but i gotta say Roy because of his consistency over the 10 years he was dominating. I mean Roy only got hurt once in that time and most of the competition couldn't lay a glove on him plus the fact that he probably won about 95% of the rounds in those years just puts him ahead of Tyson.

Being 35 years old and dropping 20 pounds has a little something to do with that...
